IHG made waves today, announcing a stunning new resort in Greece — the InterContinental Crete.

Let’s take a look at IHG’s newest InterContinental resort and learn how to book it with points!

InterContinental Brand Comes to Crete

As InterContinental Hotels & Resorts’ first property in the Greek Islands, the opening of InterContinental Crete is exciting news. It has 199 guest rooms and suites: classic and premium rooms have private plunge pools and balconies, while suites have furnished balconies, walk-in showers, and more.

All rooms feature complimentary coffee and tea, a minibar, and turndown service.

Amenities include 2 infinity pools with views of Mirabello Bay, 3 Mediterranean restaurants headed by a Michelin-starred chef, a spa, and kid-friendly activities.

The hotel is about an hour’s drive from Heraklion International Airport (HER), which offers easy connections to other Greek islands and Athens International Airport (ATH).

In announcing the new InterContinental, IHG said the hotel will appeal to the “modern luxury traveler.”

“We are thrilled to set a new standard for luxury hospitality in the Greek isles as we connect guests with our culture through cutting-edge technology, innovative design, and the exceptional talents of our diverse team members at InterContinental Crete,” said Nikolaos Iliadis, general manager of InterContinental Crete.

Like many hotels across the Greek islands, InterContinental Crete is seasonal and will be open to guests until November 2, 2024.

How to Book the InterContinental Crete

This hotel is an absolute steal for InterContinental, which is considered one of the world’s best hotel brands.

Cash rates start at just $140 nightly for dates this fall. While this is considered the low season for Crete, the island is still bustling and open for tourists.

If you have some IHG points lying around, you’ll want to use them here. Award nights start at just 29,000 IHG One Rewards points.

Earning IHG points is pretty simple, mainly due to its co-branded credit cards and transfer partners.

There are 3 IHG credit cards, each with sizable welcome bonuses once you meet a minimum spending requirement. Both Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt Rewards transfer to IHG at a 1:1 ratio.

Hot Tip:

The hotel is also running a welcome promotion, which includes the room rate plus breakfast and a 3-course dinner. You can check out the details at this link.

Final Thoughts

Whenever a new InterContinental hotel opens, it’s always great news for travelers. But the InterContinental Crete is particularly special, thanks to its low cash and points rates. If you’ve been eyeing a trip to Greece, this resort is certainly one to consider.
