JetBlue will connect Maine’s most northern airport with Boston (BOS) this September.

The Department of Transport awarded JetBlue operating rights for a new route from Boston Logan to Presque Isle (PQI) after putting it out to tender as an Essential Air Service route.

“We thank the U.S. Department of Transportation for selecting JetBlue for this new Essential Air Service route,” said Dave Jehn, vice president of network planning and airline partnerships at JetBlue. “We take our responsibility of offering northern Maine reliable, high-quality service seriously, and look forward to introducing the region to our award-winning JetBlue experience.”

Let’s take a look at the details.

JetBlue’s New Flight From Boston to Presque Isle, Maine

JetBlue will become only the second commercial airline to operate a scheduled service from Presque Isle when it launches this fall.

The news comes just days after the airline announced its first-ever flights to Islip, Long Island (ISP), though it discontinued service from Burlington, Vermont, earlier this year.

The first Presque Isle-bound service from Boston will depart on the evening of Wednesday, September 5, with the first return service departing early the following morning. JetBlue’s schedule for the daily flight is as follows:

  • Depart Boston (BOS) 8:45 p.m. — Arrive Presque Isle (PQI) 10:10 p.m.
  • Depart Presque Isle (PQI) 5:45 a.m. — Arrive Boston (BOS) 7:10 a.m.

The flight times have been chosen to maximize the number of connection possibilities in Boston for passengers traveling from Maine and across the border in New Brunswick.

“We are excited for the opportunity to bring Boston flights back to The County while also offering the community access to their top destinations around the U.S., Caribbean, and beyond through our large focus city at Logan International Airport,” said Jehn.

Nonstop flights to Presque Isle will also provide Bostonians with easy access to a new destination for adventure lovers and the outdoors. The choice of Boston over New York-JFK — JetBlue’s hometown hub — is likely as United already operates daily nonstop service from Presque Isle to Newark (EWR).

Hot Tip:

JetBlue, like the legacy carriers, has a loyalty program. The airline rolled out new elite status benefits of its TrueBlue program, and there are many ways of earning TrueBlue points to redeem on your next trip.

Final Thoughts

The addition of the Presque Isle flights will be a unique route that JetBlue serves from one of its major hubs. Moreover, it’s great to see JetBlue still cares about connecting smaller airports, even when international and transatlantic expansion is highly prioritized.
