Running low on tiles toward JetBlue elite status? You have a new way to rack them up before the end of the year. Through December 31, JetBlue TrueBlue members can earn tiles when contributing to JetBlue’s Sustainable Air Fuel (SAF) purchases.

In short, SAFs are lower-carbon jet fuel made from waste animal fats, greases, used cooking oil, or other “feedstocks.” And while they’re better for the environment, this fuel is more expensive than standard jet fuel, so airlines often take contributions to fund the difference in price between conventional jet fuel and SAFs.

Let’s take a look at how to earn tiles toward JetBlue elite status by purchasing SAFs through the end of the year — and whether it’s a good deal.

Earn Tiles Toward JetBlue Elite Status When You Contribute to SAF

Through December 31, 2024, JetBlue TrueBlue members can earn 1 tile per $100 contributed to JetBlue’s use of SAF. You can earn up to 10 tiles (by spending $1,000) during this promotion.

Additionally, SAF contributions can be combined with other qualifying JetBlue spending to earn tiles. So if you’re $25 away from earning your next tile, you can contribute $25 to JetBlue’s SAF fund to earn the tile.

You can contribute to SAF and earn tiles on this landing page. You’ll be prompted to add your TrueBlue frequent flyer number before you pay for your contribution.

Whether or not this is a good deal depends on how close you are to earning Mosaic elite status or other additional perks. Further, it depends on how much you care about contributing to the use of SAF.

The second part is important since JetBlue is selling tiles outright with a 10% discount through December 31. A single tile costs $96.30 during this sale, so it’s not worth contributing to the SAF fund solely to earn tiles.

Further, if you have a JetBlue co-branded credit card, you can earn 1 tile for every $1,000 spent on your card. If you have large purchases coming up — think estimated taxes and last-minute holiday gifts — you might be able to earn the tiles you need for elite status with purchases you already need to make.

Hot Tip:

If you want rewards for donating to SAF, you can earn credit toward Alaska Airlines elite status with donations this month. You also can earn XP toward Flying Blue elite status for donations to charities or sustainable aviation fuel.

Final Thoughts

While it’s great to see JetBlue incentivize travelers to contribute to its SAF initiatives, this isn’t a great deal simply for earning tiles toward Mosaic elite status and or other perks. As mentioned, JetBlue is selling discounted tiles outright through the end of the year, which brings the per-tile price below $100.
