One hotel chain with a large presence in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe has partnered with Autism Double-Checked to provide autism-inclusive certification. Every forward-facing staff member at Karisma Hotels & Resorts will undergo training to better serve guests on the autism spectrum.

“We continually work to exceed our guests’ expectations by adapting ourselves to their needs,” said Daniel Lozano, Vice President of Operations at Karisma Hotels & Resorts. “In addition to ongoing training, this added resource will assure guests that we take their concerns seriously and that we want them to feel at home at our resorts.”

Autism Double-Checked Certified

Autism Double-Checked offers travel industry-specific training to staff at airlines, hotels, tour operators, and travel agencies. In order to receive Autism Double-Checked certification, an organization has to complete intense training of all staff, department-specific training, as well as develop a property-specific visitor guide.

Karisma Hotels & Resorts will be the first-ever hotel brand to have a so-called Autism Concierge. The concierge will be available to answer guests’ questions regarding their family member’s specific needs as they relate to autism. The concierge is available to answer questions before and during stays.

As part of the new program, guests staying at a Karisma property can request a door alarm to be installed temporarily to provide security and peace of mind during their vacation.

Where To Find Karisma’s Autism Concierge

As of today, July 31, 2023, select Karisma Hotels & Resorts properties in Mexico and the Dominican Republic have completed the training required to be certified as Autism Double-Checked. Those properties include but are not limited to the following:

To find out if a Karisma Hotels & Resorts property has an Autism Concierge, email autism_concierge@karismahotels.com.

Bottom Line:

Karisma Hotels & Resorts will have the world’s first Autism Concierge available at select properties that have received Autism Double-Checked certification.

Final Thoughts

An Autism Concierge is a step in the right direction toward equity and inclusion in the travel industry for those on the autism spectrum. Karisma Hotels & Resorts is the first in the world to offer this amenity, but, hopefully, more hotel brands will follow its lead and take similar important steps.
