IHG has some exciting news this morning: the luxury Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand is opening a new hotel in Lisbon.

Here’s what you need to know!

First Kimpton Hotel in Lisbon

Kimpton Lisbon will have 141 guest rooms and suites. While details about the hotel are scant, we know amenities will include a rooftop pool and bar. Several restaurants and bars are also planned.

The hotel will be near attractions such as Eduardo VII Park, Marquês de Pombal Square, and Avenida Liberdade.

It is expected to open in early 2026; however, an exact opening date has yet to be announced.

In announcing the news, IHG said Kimpton Lisbon merges “genuine hospitality and unique hotels” that will be adored by locals and guests alike.

“The hotel is a great addition to our growing luxury and lifestyle portfolio in Portugal, joining the recently signed Kimpton Algarve São Rafael Atlántico, and further demonstrating owner demand and guest appetite for our Kimpton brand,” said Willemijn Geels, VP of Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resort.

Bottom Line:

Kimpton Lisbon will become IHG’s second Kimpton hotel in Portugal, after Kimpton Algarve São Rafael Atlántic. That hotel is slated to open in 2025.

Booking IHG Hotels in Portugal

Unfortunately, Kimpton Lisbon won’t be open to guests until next year. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of other IHG properties in the country to earn and redeem IHG One Rewards points.

For a small country, IHG has a large footprint in Portugal, boasting 20 properties across 7 brands. These include Six Senses, InterContinental, Vignette Collection, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Iberostar.

One of the best hotels to redeem points in Portugal may very well be the InterContinental Cascais Estoril. The boutique hotel has just 59 guest rooms and suites and is located along the Portuguese Riviera.

Cash rates start at around $440 nightly for summer dates, which isn’t a terrible price for the season.

You’ll also find award availability from 69,000 points per night for dates later in the summer.

Earn IHG One Rewards points is pretty easy. You can earn points by spending on one of the best credit cards for IHG loyalists or by transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards points to IHG One Rewards at a 1:1 ratio.

Final Thoughts

This is excellent news for IHG loyalists, who will soon have another high-end points option in Portugal. While we await Kimpton Lisbon’s opening, this is an excellent opportunity to check out IHG’s other hotels and resorts across Portugal!
