Lufthansa’s new Allegris business class product is already flying on a handful of routes, and more planes are set to be retrofitted over the coming months. Today, Lufthansa unvieled how much it will cost to select premium business class seats before departure.

For example, on the airline’s Allegris-configured Airbus A350, you’ll find 5 types of business class seats. These range from standard seats to seats with more privacy and longer beds. You can select standard business-class seats for free, while more premium seats cost up to $690 depending on which seat you pick and how long the flight is.

Lufthansa will start charging for Allegris seat selection in early 2025. Let’s take a look at pricing and who is eligible to select seats for free.

Allegris Business Class Seat Selection Cost

Lufthansa will start charging for Allegris seat selection on March 30, 2025, on flights from Munich (MUC) to Shanghai (PVG), San Francisco (SFO), and Chicago-O’Hare (ORD). Allegris pricing varies based on the length of a flight and the type of Allegris business class seat you’d like to book.

Right now, Lufthansa has a single Airbus A350 with Allegris in service, and another is scheduled to enter service later in December. You can see the business-class seating chart below:

There are 5 types of business class seats in this cabin: Classic, Extra Space, Extra Long Bed, Privacy, and Suite. Each has its own perks. For example, the Suite at the front of the cabin provides privacy for couples traveling together, while Extra Long Bed seats are good for taller passengers.

How Much It Will Cost To Pick an Allegris Business Class Seat

Classic seats can be selected for free, but selecting other types of seats comes at a charge. How much you’ll pay for each seat type depends on how long your flight is. Lufthansa split Allegris seat selection pricing into 3 zones: near, medium, and far.

Near includes Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Pricing is as follows for first- and business-class seat selection:

Bottom Line:

The simplest seats in first and business classes can be chosen for free at the time of booking. You’ll pay a fee to choose more premium seats, unless you have elite status.

Who Can Select Premium Allegris Seats for Free?

HON Circle elites and their companions can select all Allegris business class seats for free, with the only exception being Suites. Meanwhile, Senator elites and their travel companions can select Extra Space Seats and Privacy Seats for free when flying business class.

Right now, Lufthansa lets business class passengers select any seat in the cabin at check-in. It’s unclear if this will continue when the airline starts charging for some Allegris seats in March. This pricing change does not affect Lufthansa flights with the airline’s older business class product.

Final Thoughts

Lufthansa will start charging for Allegris seat selection on some routes beginning March 30, 2025. Business class seat selection can cost as much as $690 per person per flight on top of the cost of your airfare. This isn’t cheap, especially when transatlantic business-class airfare can already cost thousands of dollars.

Regardless, having options is nice — and we’re big fans of the Allegris cabin. Lufthansa isn’t the first European airline to charge for business class seat selection either. However, we hope that Lufthansa lowers the cost of premium business class seats as the product rolls out throughout its fleet.
