Marriott has announced plans to enter into a joint venture with Lefay, a luxury wellness hotel brand with 2 existing properties in Italy and 3 in development in Italy and Switzerland.

“Lefay represents a new expression of luxury, one that is wellness‑first, deeply experiential, and emotionally resonant,” said Tina Edmundson, president of luxury at Marriott International.

Let’s learn more about what interested Marriott in this small Italian brand and what it means for the future of wellness in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.

Lefay: Details of Marriott’s First Luxury Wellness Brand

Marriott’s existing luxury brands include EDITION, JW Marriott, The Luxury Collection, The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, and W Hotels. Lefay will be introduced as the luxury category’s first wellness brand.

Lefay currently has 2 resorts in Northern Italy: Lefay Resort & Spa Lago di Garda and Lefay Resort & Spa Dolomiti. These resorts are associated with Preferred Hotels & Resorts and participate in I Prefer (but not Choice Privileges). Additional resorts are under development in Tuscany, Southern Italy, and the Swiss Alps.

Situated between Milan and Verona, Lefay Resort & Spa Lago di Garda is the first 5-star luxury resort on Italy’s largest lake and offers panoramic views, an infinity pool, multiple saunas and relaxation areas, and signature spa treatments. Suites are designed with nature in mind, and some include a private Jacuzzi and sauna.

Lefay Resort & Spa Dolomiti, in the ski area of Madonna di Campiglio, is an ideal year-round destination. It is home to one of the largest spas in the Alps, including multiple indoor and outdoor pools and a salt grotto. Suites gaze out across the Dolomites and incorporate natural materials in their design. Unique spa suites even feature an indoor whirlpool, a private sauna, and a private treatment zone.

Hot Tip:

Both resorts offer family suites with 2 separate bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

Marriott is clearly intrigued by the proprietary Lefay SPA Method, which Lefay says “combines the principles of Classical Chinese Medicine with Western scientific research” in its treatments. Whether guests seek to relax, rebalance, reshape, or renew themselves, they can take steps toward a healthier lifestyle at a Lefay resort.

Final Thoughts

Though the joint venture between Marriott and Lefay has not been finalized, nor has a timeline of integration into Marriott Bonvoy been announced, it is clear that Marriott is eager to enter the luxury wellness space. While the brand is currently concentrated in Italy and Switzerland, both parties appear eager to expand worldwide.
