Kroger has launched a brand-new cobranded credit card offering Kroger shoppers a $100 welcome bonus, a complimentary Boost Essential membership, and elevated rewards. The card also comes from a new issuer several months after U.S. Bank stopped accepting applications for the previous Kroger credit card.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new card.

Kroger Credit Card — The Details

The new Kroger Rewards World Elite Mastercard^® is issued by First Bank & Trust, with payments technology company Imprint handling the card program. The new credit card follows Kroger’s transition away from its previous credit card partnership with U.S. Bank, which ended earlier this year.

The Kroger credit card earns points at the following rates:

5x points on the Kroger website and app
4x points at Kroger fuel pumps
3x points in store at Kroger
2x points on dining, utilities, and travel
1x points on all other eligible purchases

Of course, the new Kroger card also comes with a welcome bonus offer. New cardholders can earn a $100 bonus after spending at least $750 outside of Kroger channels within the first 90 days of account opening. The welcome bonus can only be applied toward eligible Kroger grocery purchases.

The card also provides benefits, including a $10 birthday reward each year and a complimentary Boost Essential membership, which normally costs $69 per year. Best of all, the Kroger credit card does not have an annual fee.

Is It Worth It?

Whether the card is really worth it largely depends on how frequently a cardholder shops at Kroger.

For frequent Kroger shoppers, the new Kroger credit card does offer some good value. The card includes a complimentary Boost Essential membership, providing benefits such as exclusive savings, waived delivery fees on qualifying orders, and free next-day delivery on orders of $35 or more.

Kroger’s rewards program allows points to be redeemed for grocery purchases or fuel discounts. Under the current rewards program, members can redeem 100 points for a $1 off groceries or 10 cents per gallon in fuel savings.

Though the Kroger credit card does offer a welcome bonus, unfortunately, it is somewhat restrictive compared to traditional cash-back welcome offers since it can only be redeemed toward eligible grocery purchases.

The card is much less compelling as an everyday spending or all-purpose rewards card, as its highest earning rates are tied to Kroger spending, while everyday purchases outside specified categories earn a meager 1 point per $1 spent.
