Qantas has been making some major moves. It recently unveiled its new business class suites on its newest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and Airbus A321XLRs, which will be delivered to the airline starting in 2028.

Perhaps the biggest news is that Qantas will finally have lie-flat beds on a single-aisle aircraft. The airline is placing a huge emphasis on premium cabins as it renews its fleet .

Lie-Flat Comfort on the Airbus A321XLR

Qantas will be bringing a lie-flat bed to a single-aisle aircraft for the first time, as part of the largest fleet renewal in the airline’s history.

The airline has 16 new Airbus A321XLR aircraft on order, the first of which are set to be delivered in 2028. All of the new aircraft will feature the new business class suites.

The new suites will be arranged in a 1-1 configuration, providing each passenger with direct aisle access and a lie-flat bed. The suites will be in an angled herringbone layout, meaning that all seats face the aisle rather than the windows.

Notably, each suite will also feature a sliding privacy door. Each seat will boast a 19-inch entertainment screen, wireless and USB-C charging, fast and free Wi-Fi, and additional storage for personal items.

The Airbus A321XLR has a range of up to 5,405 miles (8,700 kilometers), nearly 1,900 miles farther than the airline’s current Boeing 737s.

Qantas has announced that these next-generation aircraft will be used on longer domestic routes, including transcontinental services to and from Perth (PER), as well as on short- and medium-haul international routes.

Next Generation of Long-Haul Travel

Qantas has also announced its updated long-haul business class product for its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners on order. Each new aircraft will be equipped with 42 suites and will feature a sliding privacy door, a first for Qantas’ Dreamliner fleet.

Qantas has opted to update its existing business class cabin, instead of providing an entirely new product.

The updated seats will retain the current business class suite design but add an 80-inch lie-flat bed, a wider footwell, a 19-inch entertainment screen, and redesigned personal storage.

The new business class cabin will incorporate a rich color inspired by the red earth of Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

Qantas currently has 14 Dreamliners in its fleet, though it has made no announcement about retrofitting existing Dreamliners with the new cabins.
