If you’ve been hoping to experience American Airlines’ new Flagship Suites without hunting down one of the carrier’s newest Boeing 787-9s, there’s some good news.

American has confirmed that its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners will also receive the airline’s latest business class product, bringing its most modern premium cabin to even more long-haul flights. While there’s no word yet on when the retrofits will begin, it’s a welcome sign that American is committed to rolling out its new Flagship experience across more of its international fleet.

Here’s what we know so far.

American’s Boeing 787-8 Is Getting Flagship Suites

American Airlines has confirmed that its fleet of 37 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners will be the next aircraft to receive the carrier’s new Flagship Suites (Source: CNBC).

American first introduced the premium cabin on select newly delivered Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in June 2025, where each suite features a sliding privacy door, wireless charging, additional storage, and a swankier design than the airline’s previous-generation business class product.

While the 787-8 already offers lie-flat seats with direct aisle access, the retrofit will bring a noticeably more premium onboard experience. American is also expected to refresh the rest of the cabin, giving these Dreamliners an updated look that better matches the airline’s newer 787-9 wide-body aircraft.

Right now, American’s newest Flagship Suites are available on just a handful of routes. Travelers can currently find the new cabins on flights from Chicago (ORD) to London (LHR) and Los Angeles (LAX), Philadelphia (PHL) to London (LHR) and Zurich (ZRH), and Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) to Brisbane (BNE).

There’s still no timeline for when the first retrofitted 787-8 will enter service. But as American adds more Boeing 787-9s and eventually upgrades its fleet of 787-8s, travelers should have many more opportunities to book Flagship Suites on the airline’s long-haul routes.

Hot Tip:

We recently reviewed American’s new Flagship Suites on the Boeing 787-9 and found them to be a major upgrade over the airline’s older business class seats, especially those on many Boeing 777s.

Final Thoughts

As someone who’s flown American’s new Flagship Suites, it’s exciting to see the airline expand the product beyond just a handful of aircraft. The more Boeing 787-8s that receive the new cabins, the more travelers will have access to what is easily American’s best business class experience — and that’s a win for anyone flying the nation’s largest airline.
