We finally have an opening date for the much-awaited, much-delayed Park Hyatt Johannesburg in South Africa: October 15, 2024.

After a 2-year delay, you can finally book this property. Here’s a sneak peek of Hyatt’s first ultra-luxe property in South Africa and how you can book it with points.

First Park Hyatt in South Africa

As first reported by One Mile at a Time, the Park Hyatt Johannesburg will have just 31 guest rooms and suites, some with private patios. All rooms will have double sinks, an open-plan shower, Egyptian bedding, and a private lounge.

Amenities include a pool, room service, a spa, a fitness center, and meeting and event spaces. Additionally, the hotel will have a dining room, along with a cigar lounge and a terrace where you can enjoy high tea.

The Park Hyatt Johannesburg is a conversion of the Winston Hotel and will open after the conversion is completed.

This is part of Hyatt’s big expansion planned for Europe and Africa, which we reported on earlier this year. At the time, the hotel giant said 70 openings were coming to the EMEA region, including Park Hyatts in Johannesburg and London.

Other brands coming to the region include AluaSoul, Destination by Hyatt, and Thompson.

Booking the Park Hyatt Johannesburg

The Park Hyatt Johannesburg is now accepting reservations starting on October 15, 2024.

While the hotel doesn’t open until the fall, you can book rooms here starting now. The hotel is participating in the World of Hyatt loyalty program. That means you can earn and redeem points during your stay.

Cash rates here are pretty steep, with rooms starting at nearly $500 nightly in October. The high prices mean you’ll definitely want to use World of Hyatt points.

Unfortunately, as a Category 5 property, the Park Hyatt Johannesburg is just out of reach for using a Category 1-4 free night certificate. However, the hotel is pretty affordable, given that other Park Hyatts worldwide fall in Categories 7 or 8.

Rates for standard rooms start at 17,000 points per night (off-peak) and can reach 23,000 points per night on peak nights.

World of Hyatt points are among the most valuable hotel points (we value them at 1.5 cents each) and come in handy, particularly in Africa and Asia.

Hot Tip:

In addition to earning points through Hyatt’s co-branded credit cards, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards points to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio.

Final Thoughts

This is excellent news for World of Hyatt loyalists who will have an affordable, luxury points option in South Africa. With points rates starting at just 17,000 points, the Park Hyatt Johannesburg is certainly going to become a sweet spot for Hyatt hotels in Africa!
