This is more than just your average route or hub announcement.
Porter Airlines has announced a partnership with Montréal’s Saint-Hubert Airport (YHU) to construct an entire terminal dedicated to handling the carrier’s passengers.
“Saint-Hubert has incredible potential as a complementary secondary airport for Montréal, with a convenient location for a significant portion of the local market and also easy access to downtown Montréal,” said Michael Deluce, president and CEO at Porter Airlines.
Let’s take a look at the upcoming major expansion for the Canadian carrier.
New Montréal Hub Coming in 2024
Construction of Porter Airlines’ new terminal at Montréal’s Saint-Hubert Airport will begin later this year, with a completion date of late 2024.
At the time of writing, Saint-Hubert welcomes predominantly just general aviation traffic. Thanks to Porter Airlines and its yet-to-be-opened terminal, the airport will receive a steady influx of commercial aviation flights for the first time.
It’s hoped that Saint-Hubert will celebrate the same success as Porter brought to its first hub at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) — the Ontario capital’s secondary airport.
“We have proven this concept at Billy Bishop, now one of the world’s best urban airports, and look forward to working with our partners at Saint-Hubert to help create a similar success story,” said Deluce.
Porter has proposed a 10-route-strong networkfrom Saint-Hubert, with a focus on Canadian destinations from Vancouver (YVR) to St. John’s (YYT).
Toronto-based Porter already operates services to Montréal’s Trudeau Airport (YUL) to Halifax (YHZ), Mont-Tremblant (YTM), and both of Toronto’s airports (YYZ and YTZ).
Hot Tip: If all this talk of Canada has got you craving maple syrup and poutine, you might one to take a glance at our favorite boutique hotels in Toronto while planning your trip.
If you didn’t know already, Porter already serves 4 U.S. airports including Boston (BOS), Chicago-Midway (MDW), Newark (EWR), and Washintgon-Dulles (IAD).
You could even consider Detroit as one of the airline’s destination, given that Windsor International Airport (YQR) is closer to downtown Detroit than Detroit’s very own Wayne County International Airport (DTW).
Porter operates its flights using regional jets, such as the De Havilland Dash 8 with just 78 seats, or a slightly larger Embraer E195 with 132 seats.
Final Thoughts
A new airport base complete with a brand new terminal is no mean feat for any airline, especially a regional carrier like Porter Airlines.
We hope the opening of its new Terminal at Saint-Hubert is a high-flying success for the airport, the passengers, and, of course, for Porter Airlines.
