Qantas is leveling up its dining game, including the introduction of caviar in first class.
The new menus have already started on Qantas’ domestic flights, while the international menus will debut on March 29, 2023. Regardless, passengers will be able to enjoy the airline’s multi-million dollar investment in the food and beverage experience both on the ground and in the air.
“Premium food and wine is one of the top three reasons our customers choose to fly with Qantas, so this significant boost means we will be able further our efforts to deliver a world-class experience in the sky,” said Markus Svensson, chief customer officer at Qantas.
Let’s tuck into this tasty update from Qantas.
Qantas Unveils New Food Menus
Passengers flying on some domestic Qantas services will already be enjoying the new menus, while passengers on international flights will have to wait a little longer until March 29, 2023.
Menus have been updated in all cabins, from first through to economy.
International
Qantas is joining the big leagues by now offering caviar in first class. The Calvisius Caviar will be served on buckwheat blinies with pepe saya crème fraiche.
Other new first class dishes include:
Queensland spanner crab and sweet pork salad with green mango, cashews, and nam jim dressing
Crumbed Margra lamb cutlets with lemon myrtle celeriac puree
Seared glacier 51 Toothfish with saffron sauce, steamed potatoes, and braised fennel
Riverine beef fillet with green beans and rosemary roasted potatoes
In business class, guests will enjoy new menu additions as well as a “more substantial” second meal on flights between Australia and Asia.
New premium first meal options include:
Seared grasslands beef fillet with Café de Paris butter
Bannockburn free-range chicken kyiv
Seared snapper with black bean sauce, seasonal greens, and salted chili
Improvements are also coming to premium economy and economy menus on international flights.
In premium, new dishes include:
Salmon with tomato fennel sauce, red quinoa and brown rice
Braised lamb shank with red wine mushroom sauce and potato puree
Passengers will also enjoy a new starter salad and an ice cream service.
And finally, passengers in economy will get to enjoy the following new main dishes:
Cajun prawns with spiced rice
Korean chili and garlic chicken with kimchi
Black pepper beef with oyster mushrooms
On longer flights between Australia and Asia, Qantas will also be introducing new second meal dishes such as chicken fried rice and sage and lemon ravioli with kale and Napolitana sauce.
Hot Tip: Qantas operates several routes to and from the U.S. from Australia, and you can book them using points to save yourself a chunk of cash.
Domestic
Passengers flying in business class on domestic flights will also notice some changes. The main ones to look out for are:
New lighter options such as Ploughman’s, cheese plates, and a chicken corn and dill and green pea soup
The introduction of starter salads on longer domestic flights
Premium snacks from brands such as Koko Black, Brookfarm, and Carman’s
Pre-take off juice and water on longer domestic flights
Lounges
It wouldn’t be a full menu overhaul with some improvements in the lounges, too.
Chocolate lovers will get to enjoy the return of premium cakes, such as the delicious-sounding chocolate ganache cake.
Qantas has also detailed new “plate of the day” options for its international first class lounges, such as steamed blue eye with pickled daikon, sesame and shiso vinaigrette, 8-hour beef brisket with potato puree, tarragon and shallot butter.
In international business lounges, guests will enjoy dishes of fresh ricotta and crisp pancetta with roasted cherry tomatoes and sourdough, and beef, bacon and dark ale pies.
Final Thoughts
If you’re flying Qantas soon, then you’re in for a tasty treat.
The airline’s new Aussie-inspired dishes are sure to wow the taste buds of passengers, no matter which cabin they’re sitting in.
