It’s Now Possible To Redeem Air Canada Aeroplan Points for ITA Airways Flights to and From Italy

There’s another positive development in the ongoing saga of ITA Airways’ integration into Star Alliance: Air Canada Aeroplan members can now redeem points for ITA award flights.

Aeroplan already offered nearly 50 partner airlines for which you can use points to book flights, and the addition of ITA adds 1 more.

Here’s what you need to know about this new option for booking award flights.

Redeem Aeroplan Points for ITA Airways Flights

Several months ago, Italy’s flag carrier and United Airlines announced a tie-up that made booking ITA award flights possible with United MileagePlus miles. And even though ITA hasn’t been fully integrated into Star Alliance yet, it’s now possible to book ITA award flights through another Star Alliance program: Air Canada Aeroplan.

Similar to when United redemptions for ITA flights went live, we’re not seeing many premium tickets available via Aeroplan quite yet, though economy tickets seem relatively plentiful at this point.

For example, here are some flight options between New York (JFK) and Athens (ATH) via Rome (FCO), with both legs operated by ITA. You’ll pay 40,000 Aeroplan points plus about $80 in taxes and fees for an economy ticket. As you can see, flights aren’t available in premium economy or business class.

And here’s an option for a nonstop flight between Los Angeles (LAX) and Rome, which costs 55,000 Aeroplan points plus about $58 in taxes and fees. Here, too, only economy seats are available at the moment.

The only business-class awards we’ve seen so far are short-haul trips within Europe, such as this one from Amsterdam (AMS) to Rome for 15,000 points plus $128.

Having Aeroplan as another option for booking ITA award flights is a positive development for North American flyers. The Italian airline offers service to a good number of cities across the continent, including:

• Boston (BOS)
• Chicago (ORD)
• Los Angeles (LAX)
• Miami (MIA)
• New York (JFK)
• San Francisco (SFO)
• Toronto-Pearson (YYZ)
• Washington, D.C. (IAD)

ITA also recently announced nonstop flights between Rome and Houston (IAH), which are scheduled to commence on May 1, 2026.

Further, it’s easy to earn Air Canada Aeroplan points thanks to the program’s partnerships with major transferable currencies, including American Express Membership Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards.

Finally, note that until full integration into Star Alliance is complete, Aeroplan members cannot earn redeemable points or Status Qualifying Credit on paid flights with ITA, nor can they receive reciprocal elite benefits. We hope the integration will be complete very soon, so flyers can take advantage of full membership in the alliance.

It’s now possible to redeem Air Canada Aeroplan points for ITA Airways flights, which is good news for North American travelers and yet another sign that the carrier’s full integration into Star Alliance is drawing ever closer.
