Los Angeles (LAX) will welcome its only nonstop service to Africa next year.

The new route to Casablanca (CMN), operated by Royal Air Maroc, is scheduled to launch in June just in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will see games played in Los Angeles.

Here are the details and the best ways to book a seat on this very niche route.

Los Angeles’ New Nonstop Service to Morocco in Africa

Royal Air Maroc will touch down in Los Angeles (LAX) for the first time on June 7, 2026. The nonstop service to the airline’s hub city of Casablanca will operate 3 times per week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Depart Casablanca (CMN) at 4 a.m. and arrive in Los Angeles (LAX) at 8:20 a.m.
  • Depart Los Angeles (LAX) at 10:20 a.m. and arrive in Casablanca (CMN) at 5:25 a.m. (+1)

Airlines must do their due diligence to ensure there’s sufficient demand for niche routes like this to succeed. Ethiopian Airlines, which has around 3 times the number of aircraft and a much larger route network from its hub in Addis Ababa, even struggled to fill its planes and therefore cancelled its Los Angeles route.

Los Angeles will be Royal Air Maroc’s fourth U.S. destination following Miami (MIA), New York (JFK) and Washington, D.C. (IAD).

The new route launches 4 days before games for the FIFA World Cup start on June 11, 2026. Los Angeles is one of the match cities hosting games for the tournament.

Best Ways To Book Royal Air Maroc Flights

The cheapest round-trip economy ticket from Los Angeles to Casablanca, when booked directly with Royal Air Maroc, costs around $1,353.

In many cases, that’s less about $100 cheaper than connecting itineraries with more well-known airlines, such as Air Canada, Air France, or Lufthansa. We’d typically expect fares for a nonstop itinerary to be more expensive, not cheaper. Going lower than its one-stop competitors suggests that Royal Air Maroc knows it has work to do if it wants to fill its planes on this route.

Alternatively, you could consider using miles to book. Thanks to Royal Air Maroc’s Oneworld alliance membership, we’d expect to be able to use American Airlines AAdvantage, Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards, and other Oneworld airlines’ loyalty programs to redeem miles for these flights. As it stands, this hasn’t come online yet.

Hot Tip:

After acquiring Hawaiian Airlines, Alaska rebranded its popular loyalty program to Atmos Rewards. The new program offers several new perks and benefits, including the option for members to choose how they want to earn their elite status.

Final Thoughts

Royal Air Maroc’s nonstop service to Los Angeles is an interesting one. While it’s great that there’ll be a nonstop service from the city to Africa, it’s a wonder whether enough passengers will buy tickets to make the route financially viable.

However, given the timing of the launch, it might be full for the first month or so. We’re anxious to see how this develops.
