Just a day after Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) left Star Alliance to join SkyTeam, a special status match offer has been extended to SAS EuroBonus elite members. Elites can now match their status to 1 of 13 Star Alliance airlines by November 30, 2024, to enjoy benefits consistent with their previous status within the program.

Participating Star Alliance Airlines

SAS EuroBonus status holders will need to apply for a status match with 1 participating Star Alliance carrier. Because each carrier has unique terms and conditions, it makes sense to review your options before selecting an airline to match with. Note that if you are declined from 1 airline, you will not be eligible for status with any other Star Alliance airline.

If you’ve previously completed a status match with Lufthansa, you would be ineligible for another Star Alliance status match. Further, if you’ve recently matched your status to SAS EuroBonus, your new status cannot be matched to a Star Alliance member airline. The status must have been earned through flying or other program activities.

Here’s a look at the participating airline loyalty programs, the status equivalents, and the duration of the status:

Hot Tip:

Once you’ve submitted your application, you can track your status match progress at any time on this page.

Final Thoughts

Star Alliance Silver does not offer many benefits (mainly priority waitlist/standby), but Gold offers a host of additional priority benefits (check-in, boarding, baggage handling, security lanes, and immigration), extra baggage allowance, and lounge access. If you have an eligible EuroBonus status and upcoming travel on a Star Alliance carrier, matching your status is a no-brainer.

If you’ve got 1 shot to match status, Thai Airways has the longest period at 24 months. However, the next-longest offers are from Air Canada and South African through December 31, 2025. TAP Air Portugal and United also offer long validity periods with extended activities.
