Update:

The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

Until almost the end of the year, you can earn up to 10,000 bonus Lufthansa Miles & More miles for renting cars from Sixt, a European-based car rental company that’s expanding fast in the United States.

Here’s a look at everything you need to know about this new promotion.

Earn Bonus Lufthansa Miles With Sixt Car Rentals

As reported by Frequent Flyer Bonuses, the offer is valid for bookings made until October 31, 2024, for rentals of between 1 and 27 days ending on December 20, 2024, at participating Sixt locations worldwide.

You’ll earn bonus miles according to the tiered structure outlined below:

  • 500 bonus miles for rentals of 1 to 2 days
  • 1,000 bonus miles for rentals of 3 to 5 days
  • 2,500 bonus miles for rentals of 6 to 10 days
  • 5,000 bonus miles for rentals of 11 days or more

Those mileage totals can be doubled, up to 10,000 miles for rentals of 11 days or more, if you buy a zero-excess rental protection package. That’s a type of insurance that reduces the deductible to $0 for certain types of damage to the vehicle.

Miles & More is the frequent flyer program for Lufthansa and other major European airlines including Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, and Eurowings, the airlines that make up the Lufthansa Group. The program also includes LOT Polish Airlines, another major carrier serving the U.S., and other European carriers including Croatia Airlines. Most of them partner with United Airlines in Star Alliance.

We value Miles & More miles at 1.3 cents apiece, meaning that the 10,000-mile maximum would be worth about $130.

As Miles & More miles are somewhat difficult to earn, this promotion presents an interesting opportunity to pad your balance, especially if a Sixt rental fits in with any upcoming travel plans. However, if you don’t use Lufthansa’s program often (or ever), it’s obviously not something you’ll want to go out of your way to take advantage of.

Hot Tip:

The Miles & More® World Elite Mastercard®, issued by Barclays, is currently the only card available in the U.S. that earns Miles & More miles. The program does not allow points transfers from hotel or from transferable currencies such as American Express Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards.

Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles Bonus

Another bonus currently available for Sixt car rentals is tied to Turkish Airlines’ Miles&Smiles loyalty program. You can earn up to 6,000 miles for your car rentals with Sixt until December 31, 2024, according to a statement from Turkish Airlines. In addition to at least 500 miles for each rental worldwide, you can earn more miles for longer rentals:

  • 1,500 miles for 3 to 6 day rentals
  • 2,500 miles for 7 to 9 day rentals
  • 4,000 miles for rentals of 10 days or more

If the car you rent is a Renault Megane gasoline automatic (not available in the U.S.), the total for 10 days is 6,000 miles.

Germany-based Sixt has more than 2,000 rental locations in more than 100 countries. In the U.S., Sixt has 100 rental locations in 25 states.

Final Thoughts

If you collect Lufthansa’s Miles & More miles or Turkish Airlines’ Miles&Smiles miles, this bonus offer is an easy way to pad your account when renting cars. And as Europe-based Sixt expands in North America, your chance of encountering an offer from Sixt is rising. The company, known for renting BMWs, has a presence in 49 U.S. airports and in many more cities.

The information regarding the Miles & More® World Elite Mastercard® was independently collected by Upgraded Points and not provided nor reviewed by the issuer.
