Southwest Airlines is adding a nonstop link between Las Vegas (LAS) and Hilo (ITO), on the Big Island of Hawaii, the airport’s first direct connection to the mainland U.S. in 3 years.

Flights are set to begin in August 2026. Let’s take a look at all of the other details of this exciting route announcement.

Southwest Adding Las Vegas-Hilo Route in August

Southwest Airlines is increasing its presence in the Hawaiian Islands with the announcement of a new nonstop route between Las Vegas (LAS) and Hilo Town (ITO) on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Set to begin on August 6, 2026, the flights will operate 3 times per week, on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, according to the following schedule:

  • Depart Las Vegas (LAS) 9:30 a.m. — Arrive Hilo (ITO) 12:35 p.m.
  • Depart Hilo (ITO) 8:45 p.m. — Arrive Las Vegas (LAS) 5:10 a.m. (+1)

Flights are already on sale at southwest.com, and you can book with cash or by redeeming Southwest Rapid Rewards points for your flights.

In addition to the new nonstop flight to Las Vegas, Southwest has added more “time-saving mainland service” to its Hilo schedule on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. These additional frequencies to Honolulu (HNL) will enable passengers to save time on connections from Oahu to other islands in the archipelago, as well as to destinations on the mainland and beyond in North America.

While Southwest’s upcoming service from Hilo to Las Vegas represents the first nonstop link from the former to the mainland in 3 years, the airline has had a presence at Hilo International Airport since 2020, where it has been operating several daily flights to Honolulu.

Airlines have a larger presence at the other major airport on the Big Island: Kona (KOA). From there, Southwest offers flights to Honolulu, Kahului (OGG) on Maui, Las Vegas, Sacramento (SMF), and Los Angeles (LAX) on a seasonal basis.

Final Thoughts

In August 2026, Southwest will connect Hilo, Hawaii, with the mainland U.S. for the first time in 3 years. Las Vegas, often referred to as the “Ninth Island” of Hawaii, due to the large number of Hawaiian-born residents, is a logical choice for the route, as it will serve to enhance the already strong connection between the 2 destinations.
