Earlier this week, Southwest Airlines and Booking Holdings announced a new partnership that allows Priceline customers to book Southwest flights through the online travel agency. This opens up another booking avenue for Southwest, which historically required travelers to book flights directly with the airline.

This comes just months after Google Flights started showing Southwest flights in search results. Here’s what to know about this new partnership — and whether prices are the same on Southwest.com and Priceline.

How To Book Southwest Airlines Flights With Priceline

Southwest flights are already live on Priceline‘s flight booking platform, and all routes can be booked through the online travel agency. Travelers booking Southwest flights through Priceline will earn both Southwest Rapid Rewards points and can make progress toward Priceline VIP status.

You can find Southwest flights on Priceline like any other flight. Just input your desired city pair and dates of travel, and Southwest flights will appear alongside flights from other airlines. You can choose from Southwest’s various fare types, with the option to upgrade to Comfort Extra appearing after you select a Comfort fare.

You can add Southwest flights to Priceline travel packages, too. These packages let you combine flights, hotels, and car rentals — or any combination of the 3 — into 1 reservation, which can sometimes give you a better price than booking each element individually.

Priceline is owned by Booking Group, which also owns Booking.com, Agoda, and various other online travel agencies. This partnership extends to those brands, too. As a result, Southwest flights now appear on Booking.com and other Booking Holdings brands.

We ran a handful of test searches and found that pricing is nearly identical when booking through Priceline and directly with Southwest on both nonstop and connecting itineraries. However, this might not always be the case, so it’s in your best interest to compare prices before booking with Priceline.

Hot Tip:

Booking Southwest flights through Priceline will not qualify for extra points if your credit card offers bonus points on flight bookings, as those need to be made directly with the airline. If that’s the case with your card, book your flight on Southwest.com.

Final Thoughts

While Southwest has long required that travelers book its flights on Southwest.com, things are changing quickly. Google Flights added Southwest inventory earlier this year, and the newly inked partnership between Southwest and Booking Holdings means you can book Southwest flights through Priceline, Booking.com, and other popular online travel aggregators.

These aren’t the only big changes we’ve seen from Southwest this year. The airline did away with free checked bags in May and will soon introduce assigned seating and extra legroom seats.
