Southwest Airlines has announced a slew of new routes, most of which are slated to start in early 2027. The additions are primarily focused on sunny destinations popular with leisure travelers, operating from several smaller markets, but they also include a new international route.

Here’s what you need to know about Southwest’s latest network expansion.

Southwest Adds Several New Domestic and 1 International Route

Southwest Airlines has added several routes to its network. The majority of these are domestic routes, though there’s 1 new international route to discuss as well.

Starting February 13, 2027, the airline will begin flying the following routes:

  • Buffalo (BUF) to Miami (MIA)
  • Columbus (CMH) to San Juan (SJU)
  • Indianapolis (IND) to West Palm Beach (PBI)
  • Manchester, New Hampshire (MHT) to Fort Myers (RSW)
  • Nashville (BNA) to Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR)
  • Pittsburgh (PIT) to West Palm Beach (PBI)*
  • Portland, Maine (PWM) to Fort Myers (RSW)
  • Providence (PVD) to Sarasota (SRQ)*
  • Rochester (ROC) to Fort Lauderdale (FLL)*

The routes marked with an asterisk (*) have been served by the carrier before, while the rest are entirely new. Most of these routes, which are centered around popular leisure destinations, will be served once weekly with Saturday-only flights.

Four of these routes are served by upstart low-cost carrier Breeze Airways, suggesting that Southwest sees an opportunity to compete for some of the passengers Breeze has attracted on these leisure-focused routes.

Also of note is that Southwest is adding a new international route to Liberia, Costa Rica from Nashville, an airport at which it has expanded significantly in the last several years.

Nashville’s airport has been playing a larger role in the carrier’s network, especially with connecting passengers. The addition of Liberia will serve not only local Nashville residents but also passengers coming from smaller stations in the Southwest network.

Final Thoughts

Southwest is in the middle of a major network expansion. It’s announced and started dozens of new routes for this summer, and now it’s looking to next year with the announcement of several leisure-focused routes to start in early 2027.

The majority of these routes will connect smaller markets with some of the most popular sunny destinations in the country, and there’s an exciting new international route to look forward to as well.
