San Antonio, Texas, is getting its first nonstop service to the Caribbean, all thanks to Spirit Airlines.

The low-cost carrier announced a new route from the Alamo City to the Caribbean, kicking off on March 5, with nonstop service to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Let’s take a look at this interesting new route.

Fly Nonstop From San Antonio to San Juan, Puerto Rico

San Antonio residents can now enjoy nonstop service to “La Isla del Encanto,” which means “The Island of Enchantment,” thanks to a new route on Spirit Airlines to San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU).

Residents of San Antonio previously had to connect through Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) or Houston (IAH) in Texas to get direct service to San Juan (SJU) before this new route launched on March 5, just in time for spring break.

The new route will operate 3 to 4 times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and some Saturdays (only in the month of March) with the following schedule:

  • Depart San Antonio (SAT) 4:37 p.m. — Arrive San Juan (SJU) 10:37 p.m.
  • Depart San Juan (SJU) 11:12 a.m. — Arrive San Antonio (SAT) 3:32 p.m.

Spirit Airlines has increased its presence in San Antonio since it resumed flights in 2022. In addition to offering the first Caribbean service from San Antonio International Airport (SAT), the airline provides nonstop flights from the Alamo City to numerous major destinations, including Dallas Fort Worth, Newark (EWR), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Las Vegas (LAS), Los Angeles (LAX), Orlando (MCO), and Tampa (TPA).

“We couldn’t thank Spirit Airlines enough for their continued investment here in San Antonio,” said Jesus Saenz, Jr., director of airports for the City of San Antonio. “The ties between our region and Puerto Rico continue to grow and flourish. Establishing nonstop service has been a priority for us at SAT, and we are thrilled to celebrate the first nonstop flight here with our partners at Spirit Airlines.”

Hot Tip:

Not only are Spirit’s fares ultra-low, with tickets starting at $89 each way on this new San Antonio-San Juan route, but the airline also has a frequent flyer program — Free Spirit — meaning you can use points to pay for your flights instead of cash. Check out our guide to the many ways you can bolster your stash of Free Spirit points.

Final Thoughts

Spirit Airlines has launched a new nonstop route between San Antonio and the capital of Puerto Rico, making it much easier for those who live in or near the Alamo City to reach the island. While Spirit is a no-frills experience, for the right price, it might be an excellent choice to enjoy sunny days spent on world-class beaches.
