Spirit Airlines is launching several new flights from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and also increasing the service of flights that the airline already flies. This is Spirit’s largest expansion in Puerto Rico over the last 20 years that the airline has been flying there.

American Airlines used to have a stronghold on San Juan, but after the airline removed the city as a hub, it’s been a free-for-all with other airlines adding service. That said, Spirit will still go head-to-head with a number of airlines on its routes:
San Juan to Atlanta, on Delta Air Lines
San Juan to Baltimore, on Southwest Airlines
San Juan to Chicago, on American Airlines
San Juan to Dallas, on American Airlines
San Juan to Detroit, on Delta Air Lines
San Juan to Miami, on American Airlines
San Juan to Newark, on United Airlines
San Juan to Philadelphia, on American Airlines
Because Spirit is competing against these other legacy carriers, we’ll likely see quite a price war on these routes, particularly on the legacy airlines side where prices may be lower than usual.
Spirit is an ultra-low-cost carrier, and essentially every additional service comes at a cost. You’ll want to be mindful of this when booking on Spirit.
If you’re interested in visiting San Juan, Spirit Airlines is making it much easier by adding several new flights and frequencies. While Spirit is a no-frills experience, for the right price, it can definitely be a great option to this warm territory of the U.S.
