Spirit Airlines launched a new nonstop route between Hartford, Connecticut (BDL) and Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ).
The inaugural flight happened on Thursday, December 15, 2022, and marked the carrier’s first international flight from the airport.
Here’s everything you need to know about Connecticut’s hot new route to the Caribbean.
Spirit’s New Hartford-Montego Bay Service
Montego Bay joins San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) as the second Caribbean destination with nonstop service from Hartford.
Spirit will operate the service 4 times per week — on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays — with the following schedule:
The cheapest round-trip fares we found were running for about $250, without a checked bag. That’s not bad at all for an almost-4-hour flight.
Flights are currently scheduled to be operated by Spirit’s newest aircraft — the Airbus A320neo.
These aircraft are outfitted with 12 Big Front Seats, the ultra-low-cost airline’s version of first class. You won’t find multiple-course meals and Champagne here, though.
Hot Tip: From amenities to seats and customer service to fees, our full guide on Spirit Airlines has everything you need to know about flying the bright yellow, ultra-low-cost airline.
Hartford International Route Network Grows
The news is particularly exciting for those living in the Hartford area and the state of Connecticut. Despite Hartford being the busiest airport in the state, Spirit’s new route to Montego Bay brings the total number of international destinations served from the airport at the time of its launch to just 2.
It will soon be the only international flight when JetBlue’s seasonal service to Cancun (CUN) ends on January 2, 2023.
But, as we move into 2023, 2 more international routes will take off from Hartford. The first will be on April 1, 2023, when Aer Lingus relaunches its once-daily service from Dublin (DUB).
Then in the summer, Air Canada will start a double-daily service to Hartford from Toronto (YYZ), starting June 1, 2023.
The flights to Dublin and Toronto will provide exciting new travel opportunities for those living in and around Hartford as they’ll be able to connect seamlessly onto each carrier’s wider route network.
Final Thoughts
Spirit’s giving residents of the Hartford area another nonstop option to the warm, sunny Caribbean. Even better, the new service to Jamaica is an international route — always something we like to see.
Here’s to seeing more international routes come to Hartford!
