Star Alliance announced this morning that it has launched its first lounge in Asia in Guangzhou, China. This is exciting news for Star Alliance flyers passing through the airport, which is one of the world’s busiest.

Let’s get right into all the details!

First Star Alliance Lounge Opens in Asia

Star Alliance, the largest airline alliance in the world, has officially opened its first branded lounge in Asia today at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN).

The new Star Alliance lounge is located on the upper level of the current GBIA lounge in the Terminal 1 international area. It is available for first and business class passengers, as well as Star Alliance Gold customers traveling with a Star Alliance member airline from Terminal 1. It’s open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The lounge boasts an open layout, offering over 8,000 square feet of space that can comfortably seat up to 100 travelers at once.

Guests can enjoy a variety of amenities, including delicious food options like light bites featuring local flavors, a cozy bar, a private VIP room, workstations, and shower suites to help you refresh before your next flight.

“Lounges are a critical component of the effortless travel experience we aim to provide our member airline passengers,” said Star Alliance CEO Theo Panagiotoulias. “As a key strategic hub in Asia, Guangzhou serves as an important gateway for our guests. We are excited to inaugurate our first lounge in Asia, given the significance of the continent to aviation growth today and years to come.”

Star Alliance is quickly expanding its lounge presence in Guangzhou. It plans to open a second branded lounge within the airport’s forthcoming Terminal 3.

How To Access This New Star Alliance Lounge

To experience the new Star Alliance lounge at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, travelers need to have a first or business class ticket or have Star Alliance Gold status with a member airline, and be departing from the international area of Terminal 1. Also, members of the United Club and Air Canada Maple Leaf Club can enjoy access to the lounge.

Hot Tip:

To achieve Star Alliance status, members must accrue status through their respective partner airlines. To learn all about it, read our full guide to the Star Alliance program.

Final Thoughts

Currently, 10 Star Alliance member airlines operate from Guangzhou, with 774 weekly departures. Given the alliance’s significant presence at the airport this new lounge will be a welcome addition for Star Alliance travelers hoping to enjoy a shower, get a bite to eat, or simply rest before their next trip.
