Transfer Bonus From Citi ThankYou Rewards to Etihad Guest

Through October 31, 2024, you can transfer miles from Citi ThankYou Rewards to Etihad Guest and receive up to a 40% bonus.

The transfer ratio between Citi ThankYou Points and Etihad Guest Miles is 1:1, which means that for every 1,000 Citi ThankYou points transferred, you will receive 1,000 Etihad Guest miles.

However, for a limited time, and depending on the number of miles transferred, you can receive a 20% to 40% transfer bonus.

For instance, if you were to transfer 50,000 points, you would receive a 40% transfer bonus, equivalent to 20,000 bonus Etihad Guest miles. This yields a 1:1.4 transfer ratio if you move Citi ThankYou Points to Etihad Guest miles with this transfer bonus.

These are the bonus transfer rates:

Transfer 1,000 to 9,999 points and receive 20% bonus miles
Transfer 10,000 to 49,999 points and receive 30% bonus miles
Transfer 50,000 points or more and receive 40% bonus miles

Bonus miles will be credited to accounts 15 business days after the promotion ends, which is October 31, 2024. This makes it more economical to book an award flight through the Etihad Guest program.

Is It Worth It?

While it’s always nice to see a new transfer bonus, Etihad’s recent program changes have made it harder to redeem miles for good value.

Nonetheless, using the Etihad Guest program to book Etihad business class and Etihad first class using miles still holds considerable value.

For instance, a one-way Etihad business class flight from Chicago (ORD) to Abu Dhabi (AUH) costs 120,000 miles. By using the current transfer bonus, it would be possible to book this award for only 86,000 Citi points with the 40% transfer bonus.

When Etihad devalued its partner flights, it also lowered the prices of some of its own awards earlier this year. This means that redeeming Etihad Guest miles for flights on the airline itself is now a more appealing option.
