IHG One Rewards has introduced a new feature allowing its members to transfer their points between accounts for free. However, there is a catch!

Here’s what you should know about this new benefit.

Moving IHG One Rewards Points

To freely transfer IHG One Rewards points to other accounts without incurring additional fees, you’ll need to either be a Diamond Elite member or a member of IHG’s Business Rewards program. Typically, there is a fee associated with transferring points, which often makes it seem not worth the effort.

IHG One Rewards charges $5 for every 1,000 points you wish to transfer to another account, which can quickly add up. The fee is payable by credit card, but it won’t be worth it in the vast majority of circumstances due to this additional fee.

IHG One Rewards has now introduced 2 ways you can transfer points for free.

The first way is to hold top-tier Diamond Elite status, which requires 70 nights over the course of a year, which is very significant. Unless you’re a road warrior and put all your effort into IHG hotels, this won’t be a viable option for you.

The second option is to become a member of IHG’s Business Rewards program. This program allows you to earn double points on meetings and events. The membership is completely free to join, and one of the perks is transferring points for free. So, instead of staying the 70 nights required for Diamond Elite status, you can become an IHG Business Rewards member and do the same thing for free.

Hot Tip:

Sometimes IHG’s Business Rewards program runs promotions where you can earn extra points or perks for a limited time as an incentive to join. It may be worth waiting to join until one of these perks comes up, if you don’t have a need to transfer points now.

Final Thoughts

If you have IHG One Rewards Diamond Elite status or are an IHG Business Rewards program member (free to join!), you can transfer points for free and experience substantial savings. By becoming a member of IHG Business Rewards, you can effortlessly bypass any transfer fees associated with sending points to other IHG One Rewards members.
