Update:

The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

Turkish Airlines is offering award booking discounts to more than 150 cities. And that number includes dozens of cities in the Americas.

Want some even better news? The discount in the Americas is higher than the mileage discount for other international routes.

You have until October 2, 2024, to make your bookings, and travel runs from late 2024 to early 2025. Here’s what you need to know about this Miles&Smiles award promotion.

Offer Details

Travelers can book one-way tickets using the Turkish Miles&Smiles program and get up to 40% off the miles requirement. Eligible booking dates are from September 26 to October 2, 2024.

The promotion applies to economy class travel between November 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.

You’ll receive a 40% discount on the number of miles required to and from these cities in the Americas: Atlanta, Bogota, Boston, Buenos Aires, Cancun, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Caracas, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Miami, Montreal, New York, Panama, San Francisco, Sao Paulo, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, and Washington, D.C.

Conversely, you’ll receive a 30% mileage discount to and from more than 130 international destinations beyond Turkey.

How To Book

Air Canada Aeroplan and United MileagePlus are generally pretty reliable ways to find Star Alliance award space, thanks to their monthly calendar function. You can also use Turkish Airlines’ website itself, although it is rather slow and only lets you search for a day at a time.

However you find availability, final bookings must be made through Turkish’s website. Miles used for tickets can be refunded within a year of ticket issuance, and changes are permitted, assuming award space in the same category is available on the new dates you want to select.

Even if you’re running low, it’s easy to earn Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles miles. Turkish is a transfer partner of Bilt Rewards, Capital One miles, and Citi ThankYou Rewards. These flexible currencies all transfer to Turkish Airlines at a 1:1 ratio, which means 1 flexible point becomes 1 Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles mile. You also can transfer points from Marriott Bonvoy at a 3:1 ratio, with a 5,000-mile bonus for every 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points transferred.

Final Thoughts

A 40% discount on already reasonably-priced economy class awards is exciting news. If you’re comfortable with flying in the back of the plane for a long-haul flight and are going from or to a city included in the promotion, this is an excellent deal for those looking to get to Istanbul and beyond.

The booking window for this promotion goes live tomorrow, September 26, 2024, and the best discount is available in the Americas.
