Considering the anticipated demand for travel to Spain next summer, United Airlines is adding a new route to its map of routes. Just in time for the busy tourist season, a daily San Francisco to Barcelona flight, operated by a Boeing 770-200ER, is being introduced.

New Flight to Barcelona

This new flight from San Francisco (SFO) to Barcelona (BCN) will launch on May 23, 2024, and operate until October 25, 2024, so it will cover only a few months, including all of summer.

The plane will offer Polaris (Business Class), Premium Plus (Premium Economy), and Main Cabin (Economy Class) seating.

This won’t be the only Barcelona flight from San Francisco, as both LEVEL and Iberia have similar services in the works.

The new United flight will fly according to this schedule:

  • Depart San Francisco at 5:25 p.m., arrive into Barcelona at 1:55 p.m. the next day
  • Depart Barcelona at 5:20 p.m., arrive into San Francisco at 8:25 p.m.

The flight is timed so it can receive connecting passengers into San Francisco and also for passengers to take the last bank of flights home to destinations across the West Coast. United also flies to Barcelona from Chicago, Newark, and Washington Dulles, so this will be the carrier’s first true West Coast option.

Barcelona has been an incredibly popular tourist destination over the last few years, with several airlines adding new longer-haul services, such as American’s relatively new flight from Barcelona to Dallas.

Hot Tip:

This flight is currently bookable and available on United.com, so you won’t need to wait if you’re interested in flying!

Final Thoughts

United’s new San Francisco to Barcelona route is great for west coast travelers, either providing non-stop or one-stop options to the popular Spanish city. Depending on how well the route does, we may see it expand beyond seasonal as many other routes have done before.
