If you hold United Global Services or Lufthansa HON Circle status, you’ll soon have a few more perks to look forward to.

Starting July 22, the 2 airlines are rolling out new reciprocal benefits that give their most loyal flyers additional recognition and perks when traveling on participating transatlantic partner airlines.

Here’s what eligible travelers can expect.

New Perks for United and Lufthansa’s Top-Tier Elites

The new reciprocal benefits are reserved for each airline’s highest-tier elite members. That means United Global Services — the airline’s invitation-only status for its most valuable customers — and Lufthansa HON Circle, which is reserved for the carrier’s most frequent premium cabin travelers.

Starting July 22, United Global Services members flying with Lufthansa Group airlines — including Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, and Lufthansa City Airlines — will receive additional recognition throughout their journey. The same goes for Lufthansa HON Circle members when flying with United.

Neither airline has shared a full list of benefits yet, but eligible travelers can expect things like preferred seat selection, enhanced recognition at the airport, and extra support during delays or other travel disruptions.

These new benefits are designed to complement — not replace — the reciprocal perks that travelers already receive through Star Alliance. Instead, they make flying with a partner airline a little more seamless for each airline’s most loyal customers.

That said, the experience won’t be identical across every airline. Each participating carrier will provide its own set of perks rather than offering a standardized list of benefits.

United also says that additional airlines in its Atlantic joint venture — a partnership between several airlines that work together on flights between North America and Europe — could join the program in the future. For now, though, it hasn’t announced which carriers could be added or when the program might expand.

This new reciprocal program is only available to United Global Services and Lufthansa HON Circle members. It does not apply to United Premier members, Lufthansa Miles & More Senator members, or other Star Alliance elite tiers.

Final Thoughts

For most travelers, this announcement won’t change much. But for United and Lufthansa’s most loyal customers, it should make flying between the airlines feel a little more seamless.

While many of the details are still under wraps, added recognition, better seat selection opportunities, and extra support during travel disruptions could help create a more consistent premium experience across both carriers.
