Good news for Universal Orlando fans: we finally know what is coming to the boarded-up section of Universal Studios next year — a DreamWorks-themed land!

The new additions to the KidZone section of the park will be a welcome addition for families looking for attractions that are suited more for little kids.

With characters from hit TV shows and movies, this area will be an exciting, family-friendly improvement to Universal Orlando Resort.

Let’s take a look at the details.

DreamWorks Land

The KidZone section of Universal Studios closed in January of this year. After that, fans were left guessing as to what would replace some fan-favorite attractions including Curious George Goes to Town, Fievel’s Playland, and Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster.

Now, 6 months later, Universal has finally announced that an all-new, DreamWorks-themed land would take over the space sometime in 2024, while still leaving Animal Actors on Location!, E.T. Adventure, KidZone Pizza Company, and SpongeBob StorePants store intact.

The new land will feature “vibrant colors, sights, and sounds” where guests will be able to meet their favorite characters, including Gabby from “Gabby’s Dollhouse,” and explore interactive spaces.

Popular franchises such as “Shrek,” “Trolls,” and “Kung Fu Panda” will also be brought to life in “the most imaginatively fun ways.”

Although the official announcement is scarce on details, rumors suggest that Fievel’s Playland will be transformed into Shrek’s Swamp, there will be a “Trolls”-themed rollercoaster, and the “Curious George” area will be rethemed into “Kung Fu Panda.”

Universal Orlando Updates

Universal Orlando Resort has been busy lately, continuing to roll out impressive attractions for all ages including the highly anticipated Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast.

Although many visitors head to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure for thrill rides like Jurassic World VelociCoaster and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, there are plenty of attractions for younger guests too — and now there’s even more on the way!

After all, parents can only ride the Caro-Seuss-el so many times…

Final Thoughts

While Univeral likes to keep additions like this close to the chest, the construction walls plastered with DreamWorks characters had many fans assuming that a DreamWorks-themed land was inevitable.

Although some people were sad to see the old attractions go, at least we finally know what will be replacing them. And Universal has been pretty successful with their latest additions, so you can bet these new attractions will be big hits as well.

For park-loving parents with little ones who have been missing the KidZone, 2024 can’t come soon enough!
