Credit card issuers frequently present cardholders with the chance to upgrade from one card to another, usually featuring improved benefits or rewards.

U.S. Bank seems to be offering certain cardholders a chance to upgrade to the U.S. Bank Smartly™ Visa Signature® Card, which provides up to 4% cash-back on all purchases and comes with no annual fee, all without a hard pull on your credit report.

Let’s take a look at the details of this offer.

U.S. Bank Offering Upgrades to Smartly Card

U.S. Bank seems to be targeting select cardholders for an opportunity to upgrade to the U.S. Bank Smartly card, the latest addition to U.S. Bank’s credit card offerings after it launched in November 2024.

Launched just a few months ago, the U.S. Bank Smartly card provides an appealing uncapped 4% cash-back on all purchases. However, to qualify for this elevated rate, you must have $100,000 or more in assets with U.S. Bank.

Earlier today, Upgraded Points Compliance Associate Kathryn Schroeder received an upgrade offer when logging into her account to access her U.S. Bank Cash+® Visa Signature® Card.

Once she clicked on “View upgrade offer,” she was able to see a side-by-side comparison of her card and the U.S. Bank Smartly card to compare the earning rates and benefits.

Then, when she clicked on the U.S. Bank Smartly card, she saw the bonus earning rates and a few features of the card, plus verbiage stating that there would be no hard pull on her credit for the product change, no APR or credit limit change, and no annual fee to make the upgrade.

If you’re interested in exploring the possibility of upgrading to the U.S. Bank Smartly card, you should log in to your U.S. Bank account and navigate through the links for credit card upgrade offers.

By qualifying for an upgrade to the U.S. Bank Smartly card, you could potentially earn twice as much as most other 2% cash-back cards, but the catch is that you’d have to have $100,000 or more in assets with U.S. Bank, so this upgrade may or may not be appealing to you.

Hot Tip:

U.S. Bank offers credit cards that earn points as rewards, which may then be redeemed for cash-back if you so choose. The U.S. Bank Smartly card is strictly a cash-back card, so you won’t want to upgrade to it if you prefer to earn travel rewards.

Final Thoughts

U.S. Bank appears to be offering select cardholders the chance to upgrade to the U.S. Bank Smartly card. This card offers a generous 4% cash-back on all purchases and comes with no annual fee; however, to benefit from this earning rate, you must maintain a minimum of $100,000 in assets with U.S. Bank.

If you are considering an upgrade and can deposit a significant amount of cash into qualifying U.S. Bank accounts, check your user portal to explore available upgrade offers.
