In what appears to be an immediate change, cardholders of the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card (rates and fees) now see their $300 Capital One Travel credit slightly modified. The credit was previously delivered as a statement credit against any Capital One Travel purchases, but the Capital One app now indicates that it will now be redeemable as a discount directly through Capital One Travel.
Eligible Capital One Venture X card primary cardholders will continue to receive the $300 travel credit for bookings on Capital One Travel with only the method of reimbursement changed. Instead of a statement credit received after the purchase, cardholders will now have to apply the credit at checkout.
The Capital One Venture X card earns unlimited 10x Capital One miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel and 5x Capital One miles on flights booked through Capital One Travel. Prior to these credit changes, cardholders could earn miles on their Capital One Travel bookings in addition to the travel credit of $300. With the credit now being applied as a “discount” at checkout, cardholders can no longer earn miles on the credit.
Additionally, you could previously book refundable or cancelable travel to trigger the credit and then cancel the booking without the credit reversing. Now if you cancel the booking your credit was applied against, the credit will be restored if it has not expired.

The credit can be used in its entirety for 1 purchase or across several purchases.
To view your annual credit, log in to your account at CapitalOneTravel.com and click My Travel Credits and Offers.
Your annual credit will expire on your next account open date anniversary.
Capital One Venture X cardholders who were previously gaming this credit will have to actually use it now for travel. Additionally, cardholders will now lose out on earning 1,500 to 3,000 miles on their $300 Capital One Travel purchase to utilize the credit, which is roughly $27 to $54 in value, according to our valuation of Capital One miles.
Fortunately, Capital One Travel offers a price match guarantee for flight, hotel, and rental car purchases if you find a cheaper itinerary within 24 hours of booking. All price adjustments for the guarantee are processed as Capital One Travel credit, which can help stretch the value of the $300 travel credit even further.

The other disadvantage is for those who get reimbursed for work-related travel. Instead of being reimbursed for the full (un-discounted) flight cost and receiving a separate $300 credit, consumers will only be able to be reimbursed for the discounted cost of the flight.

Another disadvantage that I just found out. If renting a car and using the travel credit, you won’t get to take advantage of venture x primary rental insurance. The travel credit paid for the base rate, use my venture x to pay taxes and fees at the counter. I called visa infinite and they said it has to be paid in full or paid for with miles
