Virgin Atlantic has just launched a very good sale — book a reward flight and get 50% of your Virgin Points back!

There are a few requirements to be aware of, and you need to book quickly, but this is an excellent deal and can represent huge savings.

Let’s take a look at the sale and if it makes sense for you.

If you have, or can get, some Virgin Points and are looking to book a flight between the U.S. and U.K. on Virgin metal (not a partner airline), don’t miss this sale!

New reward bookings made between October 28 and November 7 will receive 50% points back after the trip is completed.

Besides that, the promotion is pretty straightforward, but you will need to make sure you complete all of the requirements before booking:

  • Book between October 28, 2022, and November 7, 2022
  • Travel by March 25, 2023
  • Fly on Virgin Atlantic metal (partner airline redemptions do not qualify)
  • Travel between the U.S. and U.K. or the U.K. and the Caribbean
  • Valid on reward tickets and upgrades with points
  • Valid in all cabins
  • Valid for any date within the promotion
  • You must be a member and connect your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Virgin Red accounts before booking to be eligible

Within 28 days of completing your trip, 50% of the redeemed points will be refunded. Taxes and surcharges will not be refunded.

Virgin Atlantic (and Virgin Red) points are relatively easy to accumulate thanks to plenty of transfer partners. Use the Upgraded Points Transfer Partner Calculator to find out which of your points can be sent over.

Hot Tip: You can transfer Capital One Miles to Virgin Red with a 30% bonus or buy Virgin Points with a 70% bonus for a limited time!

Virgin Red is Virgin’s (relatively new) rewards program that helps members earn Virgin Points on everyday purchases and then redeem them with Virgin and Virgin partners.

To qualify for the 50% points rebate, you must create a Virgin Red account (if you don’t have one) and then link that account with your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club account.

The process is quick and simple, but if you skip this crucial step, you will miss out on your points.

Example Booking

Ok, this sounds like a great deal, so let’s price out some tickets.

It is possible to find one-way economy tickets for as low as 10,000 points (plus $150 in taxes), so that would end up costing only 5,000 points plus tax — or less if you take advantage of transfer bonuses! A great deal, right?

But, the problem with flying to and from London is the very high taxes. The return flight jumps to £217 (~$253) in taxes for an economy flight and even more for a premium economy or Upper Class seat.

Taxes for Upper Class tickets can be almost $900, so you will have to weigh that cost to see if it’s worth it for you.

Final Thoughts

Overall this is a great sale and could easily be worth it if cash prices to and from London are expensive.

Paying only 5,000 points plus $150 to get to Europe is a steal. However, paying 23,750 points plus $875 in cash may not be that appealing to many people for a one-way ticket.

As always, run the numbers to see if this sale makes sense for you. If you were already planning on making a reward booking with Virgin Atlantic, this is an awesome way to save some points — just be sure to link your Virgin Red and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club accounts first!
