IHG is returning to Sweden with a huge splash — as it has inked a deal for a new voco hotel opening this year.

Here’s what you need to know about this new hotel opening in Sweden.

IHG Returning to Sweden

voco Stockholm Kista, which marks IHG’s return to the Swedish market, will have just over 200 rooms.

The hotel will have high-end amenities, such as a rooftop spa with an indoor pool, a restaurant and lobby bar, and a rooftop garden with city views.

The hotel is scheduled to open in late 2024, though an exact opening date wasn’t mentioned.

voco is 1 of IHG’s newest but fastest-growing brands, with more than 100 properties open or in the pipeline. A premium brand, voco is known for offering the features of a standalone hotel with the backing of a large chain.

“With the voco hotel, in partnership with IHG Hotels & Resorts and Mogotel, we are delighted to be able to bring a new kind of guest experience to Stockholm Kista,” said Thomas Sipos, CEO of Revelop.

“With IHG’s scale, experience, and proven reputation in the industry, alongside the voco hotels brand’s high popularity with guests, we have no doubt that voco Stockholm Kista will become one of the most sought-after destinations in Northern Stockholm,” Sipos continued.

Bottom Line:

With the new voco opening in Sweden, IHG is expanding its presence in the Nordics. The chain has 1 hotel in Denmark — the Crowne Plaza Hotel Copenhagen Towers — plus 7 hotels in Finland.

Booking IHG Hotels in the Nordics

IHG doesn’t have the most prominent presence in the Nordics, a region consisting of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland.

Most of IHG’s presence is in Finland, which has a mix of brands, including Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, and Holiday Inn. Still, all hotels participate in the IHG One Rewards program, so you can earn and redeem points in the region. Hotels in the region are an absolute steal, whether paying cash or using points.

For instance, a stay at Hotel Indigo Helsinki – Boulevard will cost you just 26,000 points (or $160) per night for dates this spring.

Earning IHG One Rewards points is extremely easy, even if you don’t stay with the chain often. You can transfer Bilt Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards to IHG at a 1:1 ratio or earn points through a welcome bonus or daily spending on some of the best cards for IHG loyalists.

Final Thoughts

IHG is marking its return to Sweden in a big way with the opening of the voco brand in Stockholm, which is excellent news for IHG loyalists visiting the region. Luckily, the hotel will open this year, but until then, check out some of IHG’s other hotels in the region!
