Thanks to WestJet, Canadians will not be short of options to escape the cold this winter.

The Calgary-based airline has just unveiled a huge schedule update for the coming winter season including 4 new routes, the resumption of a further 4 routes, and frequency increases on other services.

“This year’s winter schedule is about providing Canadians with what they want: affordable sun destination getaways from across Canada; enhanced domestic connectivity from coast-to-coast; and the assurance that some of our most popular routes, previously operated exclusively in the summer, are available year-round,” said John Weatherill, Executive Vice President and CCO at Westjet.

Let’s take a look at the details.

WestJet’s New Routes Winter Routes

As part of the winter network expansion, WestJet will start 4 new routes from cities across Canada to the Caribbean island of Bonaire (BON); Huatulco, Mexico (HUX); Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ); and Tampa, Florida (TPA).

The introduction of service between Toronto and Bonaire will mean the addition of an entirely new destination to the airline’s route network. Furthermore, WestJet will be the only airline operating the route from Canada’s biggest city to the tiny Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire.

In fact, WestJet will be the only carrier to operate service on each of its new routes.

Route Resumptions

In addition to adding new routes, WestJet will resume a handful of routes later this year, including several to Mexico on which it will be the only carrier offering service.

However, WestJet will join ultra-low-cost carriers Flair and Swoop on the domestic Edmonton (YEG) to Abbotsford (YXX) service.

Final Thoughts

There are few places on earth that suffer from harsher winters than parts of Canada so these new routes, returning routes, and increased frequencies should be a hit with Canadians across the nation this winter.
