Wales is closer than ever before, thanks to WestJet’s new seasonal route.

The addition of the Welsh capital city, Cardiff (CWL), in the United Kingdom, is part of a broader batch of route additions to more off-the-beaten-track destinations that the Canadian airline plans to fly.

Let’s take a look at the details of this exciting news from WestJet.

Fly Nonstop to Wales, U.K., as of Next Year

Cardiff is not often a city you hear of people queuing up to visit. However, that might all change from May 22, 2026, when WestJet launches a new nonstop service to the Welsh capital city.

When the route launches, WestJet will become the only airline to offer nonstop flights between Cardiff and North America.

WestJet connects Toronto with Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Fort Myers (RSW), Las Vegas (LAS), Los Angeles (LAX), Nashville (BNA), Orlando (MCO), and Tampa (TPA) in the U.S.

While primarily leisure routes for Canadian vacationers, U.S.-based travelers will have the option of using these routes to connect to WestJet’s new Cardiff service through a single connection.

The airline claims to have carefully chosen Cardiff due to its status as an underserved market rich in culture, which also happens to be ideally suited to the range and capacity of its Boeing 737 MAX planes.

The Canadian leisure airline will offer travelers 4x weekly flights from Toronto Pearson International (YYZ). The flights will depart Toronto on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and return from Cardiff on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, according to the following schedule:

  • Depart Toronto (YYZ) at 10:10 p.m. and arrive in Cardiff (CWL) at 10:15 a.m. (+1)
  • Depart Cardiff (CWL) at 11:35 a.m. and arrive in Toronto (YYZ) at 2:30 p.m.

Next year will also see the addition of nonstop service from Toronto to Glasgow (GLA) in Scotland (returning service), Medellin (MDE) in Colombia, and Ponta Delgada (PDL) on the Atlantic island of São Miguel in the Portuguese Azores.

WestJet also plans to launch new long-haul routes from Halifax (YHZ) to Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH); Lisbon, Portugal (LIS); and Madrid, Spain (MAD), as well as a flight to Detroit (DTW).

Each of WestJet’s 8 new routes will be operated by the airline’s narrow-body Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

Hot Tip:

Delta and WestJet have been codeshare partners since 2011, making the pair a great choice when planning a cross-border adventure to Canada.

Final Thoughts

WestJet has joined the latest trend of offering nonstop flights to smaller, more remote leisure destinations. While destinations like Cardiff, Ponta Delgada, and Detroit might not be at the top of everyone’s travel wish lists, it’s great to have the option of WestJet’s new nonstop flights from Toronto to Wales.
