Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) offers several overnight options. It is one of the few airports where numerous hotels are within walking distance of the terminal, making overnight stays convenient.

Whether you’re staying for just a few hours or a longer layover, each hotel offers different amenities and services better suited for different stays. I have a few favorite LAX hotels that are walkable from the terminals and have comfortable rooms and amenities.

1. Hyatt Regency Los Angeles International Airport

The Hyatt Regency Los Angeles International Airport is the closest airport hotel to the terminals and is one of the most convenient properties near the airport. It’s uniquely situated opposite the LAX-It (ride-share and taxi) lot and about a 5-minute walk from the terminal Southwest flies out of.

Even if you’re leaving out of another terminal, all is accessible within about a 15-minute walk from the hotel. LAX is designed in a “U” formation, with the Tom Bradley International Terminal at the bottom of the “U.” As you walk over, several cutovers allow you to access the other side without walking around.

You have to cross a few streets to get to the hotel, but each has a traffic light and pedestrian crossing signals. At all hours of the day, you’ll see many airport employees, pilots, flight attendants, and passengers walking along the sidewalks.

The hotel is a standard Hyatt Regency property, offering rooms with airport and runway views. The lobby has a restaurant, a grab-and-go counter, and a full-service bar. While this hotel has been undergoing extensive renovation, no noise has expanded to any guest rooms.

The Hyatt Regency Los Angeles International Airport is the closest hotel to LAX.

Unfortunately, this hotel’s Regency Club closed during the COVID-19 pandemic and has not reopened. While this lounge was a nice space to relax and grab a quick drink or bite to eat, Globalist guests now must utilize the restaurant for a full breakfast each morning.

The Hyatt Regency Los Angeles International Airport is a Category 4 World of Hyatt property. You can redeem 15,000 points per night at the standard rate, making it an excellent use of a Category 1-4 free night certificate. This hotel costs nearly $200 a night if you’re paying cash.

2. H Hotel Los Angeles, Curio Collection by Hilton

The H Hotel Los Angeles, Curio Collection by Hilton, and the Homewood Suites by Hilton Los Angeles International Airport are in the same building, just a block from the Hyatt Regency. Like the Hyatt, both are extremely walkable to the airport. When I stay at H Hotel, I never wait for the shuttle — I always opt instead to walk since shuttle waits and dealing with traffic can be unpredictable.

Hot Tip:

While most LAX hotels have a complimentary shuttle, you can save significant time by walking to the hotel if it’s close. LAX is notorious for traffic around the terminal buildings, which can easily turn a short bus ride into one that lasts longer than if you had walked!

While the LAX area doesn’t have any upscale hotels, H Hotel is one of the higher-end hotels in the area and seems to command a higher rate than nearby properties. It features rooms on the top floors of the shared building, and one of the things that set this hotel apart is a massive roof deck open to registered hotel guests. This roof is the perfect place to sit and watch planes land or take off, and you could easily spend hours up there if you’re into that kind of thing.

H Hotel Plane Spotting
The roof of the H Hotel is one of the main reasons you should stay there!

As far as rooms go, the ceilings are very high on the H Hotel floors, so the rooms feel bigger than they are, though they are very nicely sized for an airport hotel. The huge bathrooms feature a separate water closet with plenty of room.

I’ve stayed in the H Hotel several times, and one of my biggest complaints is that the lobby restaurant closes earlier than you’d expect for a hotel at one of the country’s busiest airports. I’ve landed from a flight many times only to get to the restaurant just after closing. Late-night food options aren’t great in this hotel area, so you may need to order Uber Eats or DoorDash if you’re peckish late at night. I stay at the H Hotel when I know I’ll be landing early, especially if I’m in need of food.

During my recent stay at this hotel, I was downgraded from the room I purchased and was forced to move rooms mid-stay. In addition, the room I was provided had malfunctioning electrical outlets, and the shower had no soap. Admittedly, the hotel was very busy when I was staying, but a recent experience here made me think twice about booking again until these issues are resolved.

This hotel tends to be one of the more expensive LAX-area hotels, usually costing around $250 or more a night. You can redeem approximately 46,000 Hilton Honors points a night, though the rate fluctuates with dynamic pricing.

3. Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles Hotel

Just farther down from the H Hotel is the Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles Hotel, another hotel within walking distance of the airport terminals. While certainly farther from the airport terminals than the Hyatt Regency and H Hotel, I’ve still walked to it many times.

Hot Tip:

As of October 2024, the road leading to the Sheraton Gateway LAX is under construction. If you’re walking there at night, watch your step and follow directions from on-site workers.

If you’re a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite or Titanium Elite, your member treatment will be quite good at this hotel. Having stayed at this property many times, I’ve consistently been upgraded to a suite without asking. The huge hotel has several wings and floors, making it one of the area’s largest airport hotels. A shuttle departs for the airport every 15 minutes.

Upgrades are plentiful at the Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles Hotel.

Thankfully, this hotel’s restaurant stays open late. The main restaurant closes at 11 p.m., and the bar (which still serves food) closes at midnight.

The Sheraton is my go-to property if I’m looking for a larger room and am landing later at night since I know the food options here close at midnight. The property does have a lounge accessible to Platinum Elites and above, but I’ve found the food and beverage options available to be less than desirable. It seems the property does the bare minimum to offer a lounge offering, and the food at breakfast I’ve tried seemed not to be fresh.

This hotel costs approximately 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points a night, and cash rates are around $175 on average a night.

Other Hotels in the LAX Area

While I have not stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles LAX/Century Boulevard, its location near the Hyatt Regency and H Hotel is very close to the airport. It’s slightly set back but equally accessible.

This hotel receives average reviews from travelers and features unrenovated rooms. However, its location is one of the best as far as proximity to the airport and is worth mentioning. Compared to other hotels in the area, it offers limited-view rooms as it’s shorter than the other hotels.

This hotel costs approximately 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points a night, but the cash rates are consistently above $200.

As you move farther down West Century Boulevard, where most airport hotels are located, you start to lose your ability to walk to the airport. This can add quite a bit of time to your plans when you’re ready to head to the airport before your flight. Keep this in mind as you choose less walkable properties.

Other hotels in the area include:

While I have not stayed in all of these hotels, I have stayed at the Hyatt House LAX / Century Blvd, and the rooms are larger than normal hotel rooms thanks to the in-room kitchens.

I’ve also stayed at the Four Points by Sheraton Los Angeles International Airport and would highly recommend avoiding it. Not only is it much further from the airport than you think (if you’re walking), but the hotel is in disrepair, with dirty rooms, long lines at check-in, and a lobby that feels like it belongs in a small Midwestern town off a highway, not something by LAX.

Final Thoughts

When I need an overnight stay at LAX, I have 3 “go-to” properties: Hyatt Regency Los Angeles International Airport; H Hotel Los Angeles, Curio Collection by Hilton; and Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles Hotel. Each offers reasonable rates and decent amenities, but most importantly, they are walkable to the airport terminals. Being walkable is the best feature, in my opinion, allowing me to wake up and not worry about catching a shuttle, instead opting to walk less than 15 minutes to my airline’s terminal. While you’ll find many hotels in the area, be sure to consider the ones closest to the airport for the most convenience.
