There are 2 ways to view a hotel: merely a place to sleep while you’re visiting a town or a destination unto itself.

Though my stay in May 2026 at the Four Seasons Hotel One Dalton Street, Boston, was intended as a utilitarian stay, it was such a pleasant experience that I’d consider it a destination unto itself.

Here’s what to know about this 5-star hotel in Boston’s Back Bay.

Booking Four Seasons Hotel One Dalton Street, Boston

With the redemption value of Chase Ultimate Rewards points through Chase Travel changing even for legacy cardholders starting in October 2027, I wanted to use my points for a stay I would normally consider out of reach.

For a long weekend in Boston with my grade-schooler, I wanted a hotel within close walking distance of Symphony Hall, the venue that was the highlight of our trip. Ideally, the hotel would also be in Chase’s hotel collection, The Edit, and have a Points Boost.

I narrowed it down to the Four Seasons Hotel One Dalton Street, Boston, which was in The Edit and had a Points Boost promotion.

The only room available was a Deluxe Room with 1 king-size bed, which was going for $1,450 per night, or $2,911.25 in total for the weekend. Usually, that’d be too rich for my blood, but it was 145,562 Chase Ultimate Rewards points with the Points Boost, which offered a value just over 2 cents per point. That’s what Upgraded Points assesses Chase points at when earned and used on the Chase Sapphire Reserve® (which is what I used here), so I counted it as a win.

Hot Tip:

If booking at the cash rate, the Chase Sapphire Reserve card also offers up to $500 in credit for The Edit by Chase Travel, delivered in 2 separate $250 credits for prepaid bookings (2-night minimum stay required).

When booking through The Edit, the cardholder can expect to receive:

  • Daily breakfast for 2 people
  • $100 property credit (for spa, dining, or other activities on the property)
  • Room upgrade at check-in (if available)
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Early check-in and late checkout (if available)

If you don’t have a Chase card that is eligible for booking with The Edit, consider booking with a Four Seasons Preferred Partner, like UP’s Leigh Rowan, to get similar benefits.

1. Excellent Location

The hotel was a 25-minute walk from Boston Common, a 5-minute walk from Symphony Hall, less than a 5-minute walk from the Prudential Center, and either a 45-minute walk or a 20-minute T ride from Faneuil Hall. It was about 15 minutes on foot from Fenway Park.

By car, it took about 20 minutes to get to the hotel from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

2. Amazing Service, Mobile App, and Check-In

The staff are the stars at the Four Seasons, which became evident soon after I booked it and downloaded the Four Seasons mobile app. Using the app’s chat function, a concierge reached out to request details about our stay, including who was staying, the purpose of our visit, and whether there was a special occasion.

When I mentioned I was coming with my 8-year-old, the concierge immediately asked whether I wanted a rollaway bed. That was an easy yes, and I gave the Four Seasons staff high marks for being so proactive about the parenting and kid aspect of our stay.

That level of attention to my kid started at check-in, when the clerk offered him a choice of Four Seasons-branded stuffed animals, and continued throughout the stay. Waiting for us in the closet were adult- and child-size bathrobes, adult- and child-size slippers, a Four Seasons kids toothbrush, a generous tube of kids toothpaste, and even a Four Seasons-branded toothbrush holder with a toothbrushing timer.

I’m not sure whether it was aimed at the adult or the child, but also waiting for us, besides a welcome note and a little confection, was a bag of molasses cookies and a card telling the story of Boston’s Great Molasses Flood of 1919, which killed 21 people and is one of my son’s favorite of the “I Survived” series of children’s books and graphic novels.

When I requested more coffee pods through the app, someone brought them within minutes.

And a couple of hours before we checked out (we seamlessly got late checkout), the front desk eagerly offered to stamp and mail a couple of postcards we didn’t have time to mail ourselves.

I wish every hotel chain had an app like the Four Seasons app, and staff as responsive.

Hot Tip:

The Four Seasons mobile app is a rare hotel mobile app that works well and is definitely worth downloading before your stay.

3. Well-Designed Room for 2

The room was the weakest point of our stay, but that’s really only because the bar was set so high everywhere else.

It wasn’t particularly large, which wasn’t an issue for just a father and young son, even with the rollaway bed set up before we got there. We still had enough space for homework, a Zoom class, and in-room dining, though it might have felt tight with another adult.

We made use of every piece of furniture, which rarely happens. Both beds were comfortable. The desk chair worked well for both the remote lesson and in-room dining, and the fainting couch came in handy for both room service and reading.

At the bedside was a tablet with the same functions as the Four Seasons mobile app, but I couldn’t order room service with it because the screen froze. Instead, I did everything with the Four Seasons app.

Street noise was an issue the first night, even on the 15th floor, with a nearby club pumping out thumping music for a couple of hours. Our window had nice city views but not the greatest sound insulation, and between that and an early-morning surprise of kid feet in my face, I didn’t get the greatest night of sleep. The second night, when there was no music, was much better, and my son slept through both nights without any issue.

We noticed that the carpet tacks at the edge of the carpet leading into the bathroom from the bedroom protruded enough that we could feel them when walking barefoot. Not enough to break skin, but unmistakably pokey.

4. Solid Bathroom and Other Room Amenities

The bathroom wasn’t huge, either, but it was clean, well-designed, and both elegant and practical. It had an inset television in the bathroom mirror, a roomy shower, and well-placed storage.

The closet was a good size for 2 people and included a pair of umbrellas, a stocked minibar with drinks at Four Seasons minibar prices, and a cheeky Boston-themed mixed drink suggestion.

5. Good Restaurants and Room Service

There are normally 3 restaurants at the Four Seasons Hotel One Dalton Street, Boston, but one was being renovated during our stay, so the hotel breakfast was instead set up inside part of the lobby that was usually more of a cocktail bar.

It was a small buffet but suited our needs, with a hot buffet and a pastry stand. The food was hearty, including shakshuka in little Le Creuset pots. By booking through The Edit, breakfast was complimentary.

Zuma Sushi and Bar was the other open restaurant at the hotel, and it was quite busy with a younger crowd both nights we stayed.

We had room service twice: once for dinner after we arrived following a delayed flight, and once for breakfast the next morning. Because of the usual breakfast restaurant’s closure, the hotel gave us a free flight of pressed juices for in-room breakfast. They accompanied a chocolate-chip kids pancake dusted with powdered sugar, which my kid liked, and an almost overgenerous spread for bagel and lox.

It was all a great way to start a full day walking around Boston. As a New Yorker, I won’t comment on the toasted bagel, but this first breakfast definitely set the weekend off right.

Room service dinner wasn’t as generous. The $51 lobster roll was tasty enough, but didn’t compare to the overflowing $37.38 lobster roll at the Sesuit Harbor Cafe on Cape Cod. Then again, no one in their right mind expects Cape Cod-level lobster rolls or seafood prices in Boston, and the $100 property credit basically meant it was complimentary anyway.

The prices were what you’d expect — high for room service at a 5-star hotel — but with the credits, room service was a no-brainer for 1 adult and 1 kid in town for the weekend who wanted to maximize time.

6. Impressive Amenities

The swimming pool was long and shallow, with expansive views of the neighborhood, and we used it both days. We could have ordered room service directly to the pool, but we didn’t try. The staff came by regularly to replenish towels and make sure everything was arranged just so.

The gym was possibly the biggest and best hotel gym I’d ever seen, only lacking the heavier free weights that require a spotter and specialized branded equipment. It also had the most generous extras I’d seen at a hotel gym, like protein bars and an espresso maker.

We didn’t try out the spa, which was connected to the pool via the hallway with the elevator bank.

The lobby seating areas, which served as cocktail spaces and overflow dining, were elegantly appointed and busy throughout most of the day and night.

The Wi-Fi was probably the best I’ve experienced in a hotel, though the speed test didn’t reflect it. A streaming service ran smoothly for hours without stuttering.

Final Thoughts

I used to wonder what kind of person would be a Four Seasons loyalist. The Four Seasons Hotel One Dalton Street, Boston, definitively answered that for me: It’s anyone who appreciates understated style, solid amenities, excellent proximity to major tourist sites, surprisingly good value with the right credit card, and, above all, superb staff and service.
