Is Hilton Galveston Island Resort Worth Booking With Points? [Review]

I visited Hilton Galveston Island Resort for 1 night on Memorial Day in May 2026 with my family, booking on a whim because we wanted an easy beach day at an island resort. Using Hilton Honors points, elite status benefits, and a card statement credit, we spent just $50 out of pocket for a fun trip to the beach.

The low cost made the stay feel like a win, even though the resort had some drawbacks. Still, the room was comfortable, the location was convenient, and the credits were easy to use. I especially enjoyed the late checkout, which gave us time to spend on the beach in the morning.

Would I book the Hilton Galveston Island Resort again? Yes, but only if I had points and statement credits to spare like I did this time.

I Booked Last Minute With Points

My family lives in the Houston area, with Galveston Beach nearby. We wanted a Memorial Day beach visit but didn’t want to make it a day trip involving a long ride home, still covered in persistent sand, wearing a damp swimsuit. Staying at a beachside hotel offered a more convenient experience, and I had Hilton Honors points and credits to spend at the Hilton Galveston Island Resort on the Galveston Seawall.

I booked 1 night for 41,000 Hilton Honors points. The cash rate would have been $163, including taxes and fees. That gave me a redemption value of almost 0.4 cents per point, which is less than the Upgraded Points 0.5 cents per point valuation for Hilton Honors points.

Despite the below-average value, I went ahead with the points booking because this stay didn’t wipe out my Hilton Honors points, and I didn’t want to pay $163 for 1 night at the beach.

Booking with points freed up the $50 quarterly Hilton credit from my Hilton Honors American Express Surpass^® Card, which I applied to room charges rather than the cost of the stay. I used about $20 of it to pay for parking, and the rest, combined with the $15-per-adult ($30 total) nightly food-and-beverage credit I get as a Hilton Honors Gold member, to pay for poolside pizza and dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.

Checking in took about 10 minutes, as we arrived right around the resort’s 4 p.m. check-in time. I didn’t notice any upgrade as a Gold member, but I was granted a 1 p.m. late checkout, which was great for a morning beach visit.

Good Location, but Beach Access Could Be Better

Hilton Galveston Island Resort is on Seawall Boulevard across from the beach and between the Galveston Island Convention Center, Landry’s Seafood House, and Rainforest Cafe. There’s a Kroger grocery store just past the convention center.

Seawall Boulevard is a long stretch along the beach, and getting around Galveston often requires driving. Hilton Galveston Island Resort’s location was convenient enough that we parked once and walked everywhere during our stay. It was nice to be able to walk to Kroger for Starbucks and fresh fruit bowls, head across the street to the beach, and pop over to Rainforest Cafe for lunch.

Although the resort is across the street from the beach, there isn’t a traffic light directly in front of the hotel. We saw plenty of guests dart across traffic to the seawall, but walking to the convention center light was safer. That entrance has an accessible ramp instead of the usual stairs that lead down from the seawall to the beach, which is convenient for families, strollers, wagons, and those with mobility needs.

Our Room Was Functional With an Island View

The room had 2 queen beds with a small dining table, and a decently sized bathroom with a separate vanity. It was nice to have the vanity surface serve as a drop zone near the door, and it was convenient while our family got ready at the same time. We had enough storage: a small closet near the bathroom and a 4-drawer dresser with a cabinet that housed a minifridge and additional shelving.

I booked an island-view room with a balcony, and that’s what I got — no Gold upgrade to a Gulf-view room. We liked having a balcony, but the view was mostly of the parking lot and the back of the convention center.

Fun Pool, but Undersized for Peak Periods

Part of why I booked this resort was for the pool. I suspected the beach might be busy on Memorial Day (it was), so I wanted pool time as a backup plan. The pool was fun, with a large, rocky waterfall, poolside games, dining delivered to loungers, and a swim-up bar with a view of the beach. The resort provided pool noodles, some floating toys, beach balls, and basketball goals and balls.

We were mentally prepared for the Memorial Day crowds, but the pool felt small for the resort. Part of what made it small was that a large portion was adults-only for the swim-up bar. That left just over half of the pool for general swimming and play. Our kids had a great time playing pool basketball with new resort friends, but the pool crowd didn’t calm down to relaxing dip levels until about dinnertime.

Amenities Were Solid With No Resort Fee

Hilton Galveston Island Resort doesn’t charge a resort fee, but has a well-equipped fitness center, bikes, laundry, and daily activities.

The fitness center was larger than I expected, with numerous cardio machines, including a few Peloton bikes. There were also weight machines, a full dumbbell weight rack, a TRX system, and more. Cold towels, water bottles, and spa water were available in the fitness center.

The resort offered complimentary daily activities, including crafts, frozen treats, a water-balloon toss, a hula-hoop contest, and a family movie night in the ballroom. Additional activities were available for a fee, including cupcake decorating and seashell painting.

There were also more functional amenities, including a fenced dog-walking area and EV charging in the back parking lot. A laundry room was available, great for cleaning up after beach visits, though there was only 1 washer and 1 dryer, both coin-operated. Just beyond the lobby was a business center, which we saw used as a tucked-away space for working and taking calls at desks.

Dining Was a Good Use of Credits

The resort offered dining in the lobby restaurant, the coffee bar, poolside delivery, a swim-up bar, and room service.

Our kids rated the poolside pizza highly. There wasn’t an option to order from a lounger, but there was a register on the dry side of the swim-up bar where we placed our order.

We ate dinner at the 5400 Bistro in the lobby, across from the bar. For dinner, we got an appetizer of fresh chicharrones that crackled and popped appropriately at the table, and a shrimp curry and crab sandwich with onion rings. We were cautioned by the server about the shrimp curry spice, but found it enjoyable, especially as a dipping sauce for onion rings. The crab sandwich was tasty, though the patty was small.

Dining was concentrated in the lobby, with the bar across the main walkway from the restaurant.

Almost all of our dining costs were covered, between my $50 Hilton credit with my Hilton Surpass card and the $30 nightly food and beverage credit I get as a Hilton Honors Gold member.

There was plenty of additional dining nearby, including Landry’s and Rainforest Cafe next door, dining at The San Luis Resort, Spa and Conference Center (Grotto, The Steakhouse, and Blake’s Bistro), and an IHOP with a beach view. The Kroger grocery store was a convenient stop for Starbucks and beach picnic items, especially its expansive cut-fruit case in the produce department.

Final Thoughts

I’d book the Hilton Galveston Island Resort again if the math worked out the same way for a quick beach trip. My Hilton Gold and Hilton Surpass card benefits came in handy, bringing our total out-of-pocket cost down to about $50.

The resort was family-friendly, with beach access, a lively pool, and resort activities (with no resort fee), all in a great location. Still, during a peak holiday visit, it was more about convenience than luxury, and I wouldn’t book a multinight stay for a large number of points.
