What’s It Like Staying at the JW Marriott Absheron Baku in Azerbaijan? My 1-Night Experience [Review]

From start to finish, I really liked this hotel. The JW Marriott Absheron Baku, with a prime location in Azerbaijan’s capital, provided a great stay.

I spent 1 night here in late March 2026. From the staff to the dining and the modern rooms, the hotel had many positives. In fact, I only have 1 negative thing to say about this hotel.

Booking JW Marriott Absheron Baku

The JW Marriott Absheron Baku offers numerous room types. For my 1-night stay in late March 2026, the hotel had standard rooms (Deluxe Guest Room) starting at $202 as a prepaid, nonrefundable rate for Marriott Bonvoy members. Flexible rates started at $244 per night.

Room prices climbed quickly, starting at $275 for premium rooms, $540 for a family room, $622 for a suite, and reaching $7,633 for the presidential suite.

Award bookings using Marriott Bonvoy points started at 21,600 points for a Deluxe Guest Room, thanks to a PointSavers promotion. Using 21,600 points to save $202 (the cost of the prepaid rate) provided a redemption value of 0.94 cents per point. That’s well above our valuation of Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.7 cents each. The value is even better when compared to the flexible rates.

Suites were available starting at 109,800 points per night. At check-in, I was upgraded to an Executive Premier room, which cost $344 per night.

Location of JW Marriott Absheron Baku

The JW Marriott Absheron Baku is in the heart of Baku, Azerbaijan’s bustling capital. The hotel is near the departure point for Caspian Sea cruises, near Freedom Square, and easily walkable to multiple restaurants, bars, metro stations, and more.

Yes, I only spent 1 night at the JW Marriott Absheron Baku. Despite the short visit, I learned a lot.

My Upgraded Room Was Great

I received an upgrade to an Executive Premier Room with a view of the Caspian Sea. This was a 5-category upgrade from my standard room. I received this upgrade because of my Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite status.

The room had floor-to-ceiling windows and earth tones that made it feel very light and spacious. The king bed was comfortable, but the real highlight was the memory foam pillows. Each side of the bed had a lamp, outlets, and a nightstand, and there was a sofa along the windows.

Opposite the bed, there was an armchair, a floor lamp, a TV, and a dresser. Inside the dresser, I found a small safe.

There was a glass-top desk in the corner with an office chair. On the desk, there was hotel information, an in-room dining menu, and a welcome note with a gift of fresh fruit.

Closer to the room’s entrance, I found a minibar with a kettle, tea and coffee supplies, and a single-cup coffee maker. These were complimentary. A slide-out rack had snacks for sale, and a price list was available. Underneath, a minifridge had drinks for sale.

The closet sat between the minibar and the room’s entrance, and I loved the mirrored front. Inside, I had hangers, an iron, an ironing board, and a robe.

Along with views to the sea, my room had great views over the White City area of Baku and the Flame Towers.

Bathroom

A sliding wooden door opposite the closet led to the spacious bathroom.

The sink was on a marble counter with abundant counter space. Under the sink, I found towels and a hair dryer.

Frosted glass doors to my left opened to reveal the shower, toilet, and a bidet. Pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were in the shower.

A soaking tub sat at the opposite end. Shelves nearby had bath products. A pair of sliding doors sat between the tub and the bedroom.

Dining Was Good

Zest Lifestyle Café

Zest was on the ground floor and had a very light, airy vibe. It offered breakfast and lunch from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. This is where I had breakfast.

The buffet was impressively large. Along with abundant pastries and a generous bread basket, there were cold cuts, fruits, hot dishes, eggs made to order, olives, pickles, and even an entire room of salad fixings.

Self-serve juices were available on the buffet. You could ask staff for tea and coffee, including espresso-based drinks.

Hot Tip:

Typically, JW Marriott properties offer breakfast in the lounge for elite members. However, during my stay, the hotel sent guests to Zest for breakfast, which was complimentary due to my Titanium Elite status.

Fireworks Urban Kitchen

This steakhouse was open from noon to 11 p.m. daily. Reservations were recommended. Fireworks was on the second floor (1 level above the ground floor).

1942 Bar

This bar-meets-snack shop sat on the second floor, near the railings overlooking the lobby. Along with a fully stocked bar, there were cakes, sweets, and coffees.

Tea Lounge

The Tea Lounge was on the second floor. It offered more than just tea, including pastries and desserts, and was open from 7 a.m. to midnight daily.

OroNero Bar & Ristorante

OroNero serves Italian cuisine on the second floor, but it was closed for renovations during my stay.

There Was an Elite Lounge

The lounge sat on the fifth floor and was accessible to those with Platinum Elite status (or higher) or those who booked rooms with lounge access included.

The lounge was open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, offering drinks and light snacks throughout the day. Evening hors d’oeuvres were available from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., while the bar was open from 5:30 to 10 p.m. daily.

In addition to food and drinks, the lounge offered ample seating, a relaxed atmosphere, workstations, and even a meeting room that guests could reserve for 2 hours at no charge. There was also a large outdoor terrace.

The Wellness Center Was Impressive

Occupying the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd floors, the wellness center was much more than your standard hotel gym. Yes, there was a gym, but it was large and had modern equipment to suit any type of exercise guests wanted. Reception also sold items like protein powders, recovery shakes, and more.

Along with a spa, the wellness center also had an indoor pool with padded lounge chairs. The gym was open 24 hours a day, while the pool was open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the spa operated from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

There Was Shopping Inside the Hotel

Next to Zest on the ground floor, there was a small shop selling fresh flowers. Off the lobby, there were 2 additional shops: a wine shop and a jewelry shop. The lobby also had an ATM.

Light Switches Were Complicated

This was the main negative of my stay. I found the light switches in my room overly complicated and struggled to turn on the lights I wanted without turning on (or turning off) everything in the room. Labeling these (or just using something simpler) would have been nice.

Service Excelled in the Small Things

Service at the JW Marriott Absheron Baku was excellent. When I arrived, there were crowds everywhere, but a bellhop fought his way through the throngs to offer assistance with my luggage and welcome me to the hotel.

Inside, I loved the bright, open lobby that provided a very welcoming atmosphere. Reception desks were straight ahead, and a friendly employee checked me in while noting my benefits, upgraded room, and hours for some of the hotel’s most important facilities.

He also gave me a welcome letter, which I always enjoy. This way, I don’t have to remember every minute detail mentioned during check-in. The letter provided locations and hours for the pool, spa, restaurants, and lounge.

At meals and in the lounge, I found employees genuinely friendly. They were eager to help.

The same applied at checkout. There was a long line of people, and a bellhop struck up a friendly conversation with me. I got the impression that he was chatting with me so I wouldn’t feel like I was standing around aimlessly. He also used a radio to call for more employees to help the line move faster, which was a nice touch.

At checkout, a friendly employee confirmed that I had no outstanding balance and provided a receipt confirming that the hold on my credit card had been released. They also asked what my onward plans were and whether I needed assistance getting to my next destination.

Final Thoughts

My 1-night stay at the JW Marriott Absheron Baku was very positive overall. I loved my room, and I found the employees friendly from start to finish.

The price was good, and the location was fantastic. While I wasn’t a fan of the complicated light switches in my room, that didn’t detract from the experience. This is a property worth visiting.
