Since most hotel loyalty programs are free to join, it usually makes sense to join regardless of whether you have a stay planned or how often you stay. Many hotel programs are much more lucrative than others, especially big-name programs like Marriott Bonvoy, World of Hyatt, Hilton Honors, and IHG Rewards.

But sometimes, smaller, more focused hotel loyalty programs can offer significant benefits, especially if traveling outside the U.S. The My Barceló program, the loyalty program for Barceló Hotels, is one such program.

While Barceló is often associated with package holidays (the type of holidays travel agencies book for customers looking to combine flight, ground transportation, and an all-inclusive hotel stay), we’ll focus on whether or not My Barceló is worth joining for those who want to book a stay at one of over 300 Barceló properties.

About Barceló Hotels

Barceló Hotels has more than 300 hotels across 4 different brands in 30 countries, with over 65,000 hotel rooms on offer and over 90 years of experience. It claims to be the second-largest hotel chain in Spain and is the only Spanish hotel brand that appears on the top 10 list of the strongest hotel brands in the world.

Many of the brand’s hotels are in Spain, as well as other destinations within Europe, the Caribbean, and beyond. A lot of the Barceló hotels offer all-inclusive or half-board packages, as well as bed and breakfast rate options.

Barceló Brands

Each of its 4 brands has a different vibe and market:

  • Allegro Hotels: Ideal for youthful and active travelers, these resorts focus on creating a lively, fun vacation experience.
  • Barceló Hotels & Resorts: With both urban and seaside locations, these hotels and resorts are dedicated to innovation and creativity, with properties inspired by the local culture and sustainability.
  • Occidental Hotels & Resorts: These hotels focus on being comfortable, practical, and functional for the traveler who wants to enjoy their trip worry-free.
  • Royal Hideaway Luxury Hotels & Resorts: These are luxury properties that prioritize exclusivity, small details, discretion, art, and culture.

Royal Level

The easiest way to get the most exclusive service, privacy, and experiences at Barceló is to book Royal Level, the brand’s exclusive Barceló hotels that sit within larger resorts. Royal Level books get the following perks:

  • Personalized welcome: This includes a special lobby and reception area, exclusive service from a guest-experience manager, and 24-hour-a-day customized check-in and checkout.
  • Access to premium areas: Guests can eat and drink in private bars and restaurants (or sections) and relax in private pools or on private terraces.
  • Privileged rooms: Royal Level guests get special rooms that are larger and in prime locations. They include amenities like welcome gifts, coffee and tea sets, bathrobes, slippers, and complimentary access to an in-room safe.
  • Additional perks: Guests who book Royal Level also get 20% off paid services and facilities at the resort and access to the Royal Concierge Service.

About My Barceló

My Barceló is the loyalty program for Barceló Hotels. Although you may stumble across something called Barceló ProRewards, this is only for professional travel agents — My Barceló is the loyalty program for consumers.

How To Sign Up for My Barceló

The My Barceló loyalty program is free to join. To do so, sign up for an account here. You will need to enter your name, email, date of birth, and password.

Hot Tip:

Once you sign up, you’ll get Barceló emails and promotions. Keep a close eye on these, as many deals can offer up to 25% off a stay. Combine that with the additional 5% or 10% discounts you get if you reach a certain level, which can significantly reduce the cost of your hotel stay.

Benefits

The My Barceló program is simple, offering straightforward, easy-to-understand benefits. There’s a best-rate guarantee, which means you should always be offered the lowest rate when you’re logged in during the direct booking process. Based on your membership level (there are 3), the more stays you complete, the more discounts and benefits you get.

Levels

The program features 3 different levels: My Barceló Essential, My Barceló Special, and My Barceló Unique. Each one comes with different promotions, conditions, and services. Moving up a level happens by completing a certain number of stays and reaching a spend threshold. You’ll be downgraded to a lower level if you don’t meet the criteria for the current level in the time period required.

  • My Barceló Essential: This is the most basic level, reachable simply by signing up for the program.
  • My Barceló Special: The medium level of membership, you can obtain this status by completing 2 hotel stays and spending at least €1,000 ($1,150) over a period of 24 months.
  • My Barceló Unique: Unique is the most premium level of membership. To reach this tier, you have to complete 4 stays and have spent €3,000 ($3,500) or more over a period of 24 months.

The table below outlines the different levels and the benefits that correspond with each:

Points

Unlike many other hotel programs, My Barceló doesn’t have points to earn or redeem. The program’s main focus is moving up levels by completing stays and hitting spend thresholds so you can benefit from discounts, additional amenities, and perks.

Hot Tip:

You can book 1 Barceló hotel using World of Hyatt points: the Barceló Torre de Madrid, a Mr & Mrs Smith property. However, you’ll have to choose which program you want to earn or redeem with, as you can’t do both.

Is Joining the My Barceló Program Worth It?

Joining the My Barceló program is definitely worth it, especially if you’re planning an upcoming stay. While the program isn’t overly complicated or complex, it’s worth it for the discounts alone, especially if you plan frequent stays. Getting 5% or 10% off a stay can really help lower the price. Since My Barceló makes it easy to join, you might as well do so ASAP to save time when you decide to book a stay.

Best Credit Card To Use When Staying at Barceló Hotels

Since Barceló Hotels doesn’t have its own co-branded credit card, we suggest using a flexible rewards credit card that allows you to earn bonus points on travel expenses. For example, a solid choice is the Citi Strata Premier® Card, where you can earn 3x ThankYou Points on hotels booked outside the Citi Travel portal and flights. Or you could opt for the newly overhauled Chase Sapphire Reserve®, which offers 4x Ultimate Rewards points on hotels (and flights) booked directly.

Whatever card you use, make sure that you’re getting bonus points for making a hotel purchase.

Final Thoughts

We recommend joining the My Barceló loyalty program. It’s free and easy to sign up for, and you also get emails that include discounts and promotions that can significantly lower the price of your stay. Even if you don’t have a Barceló hotel in mind, joining the program means that if you decide to book a Barceló stay, you obtain additional amenities and perks and start moving up levels.
