I watched a sea turtle surface for a breath, as if flying from the crystal-clear depths of the ocean, only to plunge just as suddenly back to the sandy floor. A stingray then glided past, and I looked through my snorkel mask at my husband with more than an expression of disbelief. Just a few strokes away was our resort, the newly opened Royalton Vessence Barbados.

This property marks the debut of the Royalton Vessence brand, which says it promotes the “art of vacation.” This concept extended to multiple aspects of our 4-night stay in July 2026, including curated spaces, globally inspired dining, and a suite of activities.

Here’s what made Royalton Vessence Barbados stand out and why you should consider it for a stay.

1. You Can Earn or Burn Marriott Bonvoy Points

Cash rates at Royalton Vessence Barbados Adult-Oriented, an Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort, for the most affordable suite start at $657 in summer and rise to over $1,400 over the peak winter season. Award nights start at 95,500 Marriott Bonvoy points in low season and climb as high as 169,000 points in peak season (offering 0.6 to 0.8 cents per point in value, which is about where we value Marriott Bonvoy points).

Diamond Club is complimentary for Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite, and Ambassador Elite members, plus 1 guest. But if you don’t have status, is it worth springing for? When guests book via Marriott.com, the Diamond Club upcharge adds about $200 to $250 per night to the only non-Diamond Club room available, a junior suite with a garden view.

Our butlers, Kaleifa and Taneah, messaged me daily with activity times, the dining venues and their opening times, and any booking confirmations. They quickly addressed my various requests.

Bottom Line:

If you prefer an ocean view or a swim-out suite, those rooms are only bookable as Diamond Club. If you’re considering a garden-view room but want access to a butler, top-tier beverages, and preferential room locations, spring for the Diamond Club.

3. Enjoy Curated Spaces Made for Relaxation and Rest

The design of our swim-out junior suite was inviting. Its wood features paired well with vibrant, heavy accent rugs, and pops of patterns and notes of blue, green, and orange gave the room a contemporary feel.

In the main room, a firm chaise lounge with a coffee table was across from the desk and minibar area. Opposite the king-size bed was a large flat-screen TV above a drawer unit with shelving.

The bed was firm and delivered a relaxing night’s rest. Each side had a nightstand, an eyemask, light switches, a universal power outlet, and USB-A and USB-C inputs.

Swim-Out Pool

The suites featuring swim-out pools are among the highest-category rooms, commanding rates higher than those of 1-bedroom or ocean-view suites (ours was around $1,800 per night for our stay). The majority of these suites face a greenery buffer near the lobby, though some are closer to the main pool and beach.

Our patio featured comfortable lounge chairs and in-pool loungers with a privacy screen to block the view of the adjoining suite.

All-Inclusive Room Perks

Several enhancements made this room stand out, starting with a complimentary beach bag hand-painted by a local artist. Upon arrival, we received fruit and bottles of wine and rum. The next day, full-size liquor bottles appeared. The minibar had juices, water bottles, Coke products, and Banks and Deputy beers. Standard coffee and tea service was also available.

Bathroom

As we stepped into the room, a small toilet room with a sliding door was immediately on the left, ahead of an open space with a double vanity and a massive shower, all tiled in white and gray marble. The Vessence-branded bath amenities had a refreshing green tea scent.

Across from the vanity was a closet with robes, slippers, yoga mats, and an umbrella.

All meals and beverages at the 13 restaurants and 3 bars were included in the all-inclusive experience.

• Nabū: daytime swim-up bar
• Petisco: lunch-only bar and grill
• Room 21: dinner and late-night sports bar

The Rooftop lunch-only outposts:

• Catrinas Express: Mexican cuisine
• Little Waves: seafood
• Rooftop Bar
• The Saffron Hut: Indian cuisine
• Sugar Halo: pastries and sweets

During my visit, breakfast was at Essenza, lunch was limited to Petisco and The Rooftop, and dinner rotated (Hunter and La Scala alternated days open with Moi Aussi and Kai, with Room 21 open nightly). Room service was also available.

Breakfast at Essenza

Essenza has floor-to-ceiling views, and relaxing with a drink and watching the catamarans breeze by was a highlight of every morning.

The buffet area was spacious, with just about everything you’d expect.

Chilled stations featured yogurt, fruit, charcuterie, and salad, while hot stations offered fritters, fried plantains, breakfast meats, pizza, and pancakes. Guests could order custom eggs and request carved meat.

Lunch

We enjoyed lunch at open-air Petisco, with starters like conch fritters and chicken wings and mains such as flank steak and cheeseburgers. One afternoon, we also ordered a pizza from the abbreviated La Scala menu.

The Rooftop concept offers 4 quick-service lunch venues and a bar. This area felt like it was finding its footing, with limited food availability and staffing.

My favorite was the Indian outpost, The Saffron Hut. My husband and I shared lamb rogan josh and chicken tikka, and both were stellar.

Dinner

With 4 nights, we were able to dine at each of the primary dinner restaurants. The ribeye at Hunter was a highlight of our first night, with the lamb chops from La Scala a spectacular standout. We went all out at Moi Aussi, ordering duck confit, beef bourguignon, and tenderloin, and all were excellent.

Our least favorite meal was at Kai, the Asian restaurant. The sushi, tom yum soup, and red curry missed the mark, but the braised pork belly redeemed the meal.

We visited during the World Cup and popped into Room 21 to catch a game, but the bright lighting and seating didn’t deliver a sports-bar atmosphere.

Bottom Line:

The dinner restaurants were brightly lit and could get quite noisy with just a few tables. More private, intimate dining spaces would be welcome.

Bars and Anytime Eats

We enjoyed bantering with the friendly staff at Nabū and Barista, who were more than happy to offer recommendations for their favorite concoctions or ice cream flavors.

5. Connect With Outdoor, Wellness, and Creative Activities

The app listed daily fitness classes, pool activities, creative classes at The Studio, and nightly entertainment. Nothing overlapped, and it was easy to put together a rough schedule for the day (or zero schedule at all).

Pools

Main Pool

The expansive pool was surrounded by a variety of padded and nonpadded loungers. Diamond Club butlers could arrange a towel on a poolside chair ahead of a guest’s visit. We enjoyed the sunset each night from the massive hot tub, which was one of the largest I’ve seen.

Rooftop Pool

Guests have access to an infinity-edge pool and hot tub on The Rooftop, open until 2 a.m.

Holetown Beach

The hotel had several rows of umbrellas and padded and unpadded loungers. The public beach itself was not very long, but the section at the Royalton was wide and free of sargassum.

The boardwalk extended, with a mix of concrete paths and beach access, for a nice walk in either direction.

Cabanas and Beds

Bali beds dotted the beach and pool area, with larger cabanas featuring sofas and tables poolside. At the time of my visit, all of these were available without reservation or upcharge.

Water Sports

Nonmotorized water sports were part of the all-inclusive package, including kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, an Aqua Cycle, a Hobie Cat, and snorkel equipment.

We were enamored by the fantastic snorkeling. Shallow artificial rock reefs were just a few steps from the beach and teeming with sea life. We saw angelfish, parrotfish, blue tangs, pufferfish, and seemingly endless more varieties. We snorkeled at various times of day and at different tides, and it was consistently excellent.

Hot Tip:

The area where the catamaran tours stop offshore is where you can snorkel to see turtles, stingrays, and tarpon. Grab a neon snorkel marker from the water sports desk to make yourself more visible to boats.

The Royal Spa

As Diamond Club guests, my husband and I enjoyed an hour at the hydrotherapy pool and hot tub in the spa. The sauna and steam rooms were gender-specific by locker room, and there were 3 types of showers in the hydrotherapy area.

Spa services include facials, massages, and body treatments.

Moddo Fitness by Royalton FIT

The fitness center had everything needed to work out away from home, with cardio and strength-training equipment from Technogym.

Activities at The Studio

Our kids were at camp the week we spent in Barbados, and I felt like we had an adult camp experience ourselves. My husband stepped completely out of his comfort zone and joined me at The Studio for a painting class, a tie-dye experience, and a pottery session.

Hot Tip:

The resort is adult-oriented but not adults-only. We did see small children during our stay, but there is no family or kid-specific programming.

Nightly Entertainment

Musicians performed in the lobby after sunset. The sounds were inescapable in our room, but everything was quiet by 10 p.m.

Final Thoughts

Royalton Vessence Barbados is ready to welcome guests, who will find friendly staff, relaxing spaces, a varied dining program, and a solid schedule of activities. If all we did on a return visit was snorkel and retreat to the hot tub with a Banks in hand, I think my husband would call that a successful vacation.
