The Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park is one of Marriott’s flagship properties. It’s one of the nicest Marriott hotels in Sydney, Australia, and a great property to redeem Marriott Bonvoy points at.

I had the chance to stay at this hotel over New Year’s 2026 and really enjoyed my stay, so much so that I’ve booked the same hotel for future stays in Sydney.

Let’s take a look at all you need to know about this popular hotel.

1. The Hotel Is a Fantastic Redemption on Points.

Almost every time I have stayed at the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park, I’ve done so on points. This hotel can be quite expensive, especially in peak season. It’s not uncommon for rooms here to be over $500 a night, and during my New Year’s visit in 2025, rooms were running over $800 a night.

I find this hotel to be a great value when redeeming points. On many nights, you can find this hotel costing approximately 45,000 to 65,000 points. If you maximize your redemption and stay 5 nights, you receive the fifth night free. This hotel can also be a great use of a Free Night Award, which comes as a benefit on the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card.

Bottom Line:

You can easily spend more than 5 nights in Sydney, so the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park is a fantastic hotel if you plan to experience all that Sydney has to offer.

2. Some Rooms Have a Balcony.

The Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park is one of the only hotels in Sydney with balconies in some rooms. When you visit Sydney during their summer (U.S. winter), you can find many days perfect to sit outside, and the Sheraton is one of the few hotels where you can relax on your own private balcony.

Sheraton Sydney Views from Building
Some rooms at the Sheraton have a balcony overlooking Hyde Park.

Only the upper-floor rooms that face Hyde Park have these balconies, so there aren’t a ton of rooms available that meet this category. As a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite member, I have received a balcony room upgrade before, so if you’d like one, you could ask the front desk upon arrival to see if one is available for your stay. That said, because there are only a limited number of rooms, I’ve found this room type sold out on many occasions.

If you can’t secure a room with an outdoor terrace, the Sheraton Club lounge features a few balconies where you can enjoy breakfast or evening appetizers.

3. Request Housekeeping Early.

One downside I noticed at this hotel was that housekeeping always cleaned my room at the least convenient times. Whenever I wanted to come back to take a nap, it almost seemed like clockwork that they’d be cleaning the room. Even in the morning hours after breakfast, when I’d remove the do-not-disturb sign, they’d never come by. I had asked the front desk staff if housekeeping could clean my room earlier in the day so I could have the room available in the afternoon, but it seemed this request was ignored on multiple occasions.

I did see someone in the club lounge complaining to an attendant about the lack of attention to cleaning, so I’m not sure if this is a regular issue at this property.

One day, around 4 p.m., a time when I assumed the room would be fully cleaned, things were still untouched inside, so I’m not sure if this hotel was short-staffed or if there was a miscommunication with the front desk, but if you’re staying here and want to ensure your room is cleaned at a certain hour, you may want to follow up.

4. Suite Upgrades Can Be Slim.

I’ve stayed at this hotel several times, and I’ve never received a complimentary suite upgrade as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite member. I’ve even applied nightly suite upgrade awards to my stays and never once received a suite upgrade, even when I saw basic suites still available at check-in. I have received upgrades to rooms with a balcony and rooms overlooking the park, but never much more than this.If having a suite is important to you, you may wish to look elsewhere for your stay.

Sheraton Sydney Bedroom Overview
Even if you don’t get a suite upgrade, the rooms are still decently sized.

5. The Club Is Really Great.

This hotel has a Sheraton Club on the top floor, and it’s one of the better club lounges I’ve encountered in Sydney. You can access this as a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite or above.

In theory, you could check into the hotel at the club itself if you were club-eligible; you’d need to know where the club is and how to get there, which is unrealistic for many travelers.

Inside the club lounge is an attendant who can help with your stay or any room needs, along with plenty of seating, both inside and out, which sets this space apart.

Sheraton Sydney Seating in Club
While the club had plenty of seating, I had trouble finding a place to sit on several occasions.

During my stay, breakfast was served from 6 to 10 a.m. and offered 3 to 5 hot dishes, usually including eggs, waffles, pancakes, and sausages, plus a rotating Asian-inspired dish such as dumplings, fried rice, or noodles. I had the seafood dumplings on several occasions, and they were really delicious. I found the breakfast offerings changed slightly from day to day, though some items remained the same, such as the eggs, pastries, and fruit.

One of my gripes about this lounge (and many others) is that there were small plates for food, so sometimes it took multiple trips to the buffet to get a complete meal. I wished they had larger plates to avoid the back-and-forth. I do remember one occasion, when I got up from my table to get more food, and the cleaning staff were so swift that they had cleared my used plate, wiped the table, and had a new person sitting there by the time I returned!

Sheraton Sydney Club Breakfast Plate
The Sheraton serves a hearty breakfast, though many popular foods weren’t replenished quickly.

One thing to note is that the meal hours can be extremely busy in this lounge. I was visiting the hotel during one of the busiest weeks of the year, so I may have encountered unusually large crowds, but I noticed on multiple occasions that the hotel staff could not keep up with replenishing the food. They often brought out small refills of food to keep things filled, but ultimately, the food disappeared faster than it could be replenished.

As one would expect, the food that was popular, such as sushi, pasta dishes, and meats, was among the first to be depleted, so if you wanted your best chance at not having to deal with food running out, you had to be sure to show up at the lounge early. I also noticed that the less popular items were being replenished faster, which seemed odd to me.

Sheraton Sydney Club Sushi
Dinner included several hot and cold dishes.

In addition to the food on offer, the lounge also served complimentary alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, though I was really disappointed to see Pepsi products, as I’m not a fan of these sodas. (Marriott still had a contract with Pepsi when I visited, though they’ve since switched to Coca-Cola.) One thing I would have appreciated for beverages was a selection of fresh juices. The hotel offered 4 or 5 juices on ice each day, but they were refilled from jugs in the fridge, which seemed to be juices from concentrate rather than fresh-squeezed.

Bottom Line:

While I made the club lounge offerings dinner, your appetite and experience might not be the same, so be sure to have a backup plan if you find the evening selection not to your liking.

6. The Pool Is Huge.

One of the best features of this hotel is the 43-foot (13-meter) rooftop pool. It’s a perfect place to get in laps or relax, and there’s a nearby fitness center where you can find a variety of cardio and strength training equipment.

Sheraton Sydney Pool Wide
One of the highlights of this hotel is the rooftop pool.

The pool is heated year-round, so it’s usable year-round. Right next door is a spa and sauna, and the hotel accepts treatment bookings throughout the day.

If you are staying at the hotel and can’t find the pool or sauna, don’t panic — it’s actually quite easy to miss. Only 1 elevator in the bank serves the pool and spa area, so you need to call that elevator to get there.

7. Access to the Airport Is Easy.

The hotel is less than a block from the St. James train station, which serves both Sydney Airport’s (SYD) domestic and international airport terminals. Trains to and from the airport run every 5 to 10 minutes, making the service extremely convenient. There is a stop at both airport terminals, and you can be at the hotel from the airport in less than 20 minutes. The hotel is about 7 miles away from the airport terminals, and it takes about 16 minutes to drive there without traffic.

If you have luggage, there is an elevator at St. James, though it’s hard to find, so be sure to follow the signage inside.

Sheraton Sydney Exterior
Right across the street is the train that takes you to the airport.

To get to the train, head out the hotel’s main entrance and turn left. At the next intersection, look across the street for the entrance. There is an elevator on the left.

Hot Tip:

You don’t want to rely on these trains to catch an early flight, though staying at this hotel is perfectly fine if you have a midday or evening flight and leave plenty of time beforehand. If you have a lot of luggage, you may find a ride-hailing service or a taxi easier, but for most travelers, the train works just fine. You can simply tap on and off using a major credit card.

8. Location Is Everything.

In addition to being near the train to the airport, the Sheraton is well-situated for seeing most of Sydney’s cultural sites. Immediately behind the hotel are a number of name-brand stores on Castlereagh Street. Further down, about a 15-minute walk away, is Darling Harbour, which you can easily access via sidewalks and pedestrian bridges. If you’re heading down to Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House area, it is about a 20-minute walk (mostly downhill on the way there, with a steady uphill on the way back to the hotel).

Directly across from Hyde Park, about a 5-minute walk from the hotel, is the Australian Museum, one of Sydney’s largest museums and a great introduction to life in Australia, both animal and human. This museum can easily take up half of your day if you plan on visiting all of the wings, including the rotating exhibit.

Also on the other side of Hyde Park is the Hyde Park Barracks, which is one of Sydney’s oldest communities, housing a barracks, hospital, jail, old mint, and the city’s first courthouse. Plan on allowing a couple of hours here to see all the buildings.

While Sydney is a large city, it is walkable, and one of the best things about the Sheraton is that it’s in the center of things, so if you want to check out a few museums or walk around, you can easily come back to the hotel in the afternoon for a break before heading back out again.

Sheraton Sydney Main Lobby Stairs
The Sheraton lobby is large and will be busy during the day with many cruise, convention, and conference attendees staying at the hotel.

When it’s time to explore the outskirts of Sydney or one of Sydney’s amazing suburbs, the train right across the street at St. James can take you where you need to go. If you want to walk to Central Station, the main hub for trains in the region, that’s about a 15-or-so-minute walk north of the hotel.

Final Thoughts

The Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park is one of the best Marriott properties in the city and is well-located for exploring the city center. With a decent club lounge, great fitness facilities, and the possibility of a room with access to the outdoors, it’s a great hotel for a stay in Sydney of any length.
