Vietnam is a vibrant and diverse country best known for its rich history, stunning landscapes, welcoming people, and world-class street food. I visited Vietnam back in 2019, but I only had the chance to explore the southern part of the country. For my July 2025 trip, I was especially excited to finally visit Hanoi, the capital city, along with a few other destinations in the north.

Although Vietnam is generally affordable, Western hotel chains often maintain their typical pricing. While browsing hotels in Hanoi, I was surprised to find unusually low cash rates at some properties. Ultimately, I booked Tru by Hilton Hanoi Station, expecting it to be fairly average given the price, but it exceeded my expectations.

Here’s an in-depth look at my experience at the property and why you should consider staying there when traveling to Hanoi.

Booking Tru by Hilton Hanoi Station

Since I had nearly a week in Hanoi, I wanted to ease into the trip with a relaxing first day. After looking at numerous familiar Western hotel chains, I was surprised to see a Hilton property, Tru by Hilton Hanoi Station, with extremely low cash prices. Given the unusually low price, I assumed there had to be a catch or something might be off with the hotel.

Still, I decided it was worth the risk as the cash rates were super low. I looked at the various room options and decided to book the cheapest room available, a 1 King Bed Room. I hoped my top-tier Hilton Honors Diamond Elite status would get me upgraded to a nicer room.

The room for this 1-night July 2025 stay was under ₫1.35 million ($52), including all taxes and fees.

You could also book an award night with Hilton Honors points, starting at 14,000 points per night, though with cash rates so low, it’s hardly a good use of points.

I used the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card for payment, as it earns 14x points on Hilton purchases.

Tru by Hilton Hanoi Station Location

As its name suggests, Tru by Hilton Hanoi Station is right across the street from Hanoi Railway Station (Ga Hà Nội), one of Vietnam’s most important train stations. The station serves as a focal point in the city of Hanoi and connects the rest of the country.

The property is less than a 15-minute walk from many of Hanoi’s major tourist attractions, including the Temple of Literature, Hanoi Train Street, and Hanoi Old Quarter.

Getting There

Tru by Hilton Hanoi Station is a 45-minute drive from Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport (HAN). I opted to take a Grab taxi for ₫344,000 ($13).

You can also reach the property using public transportation. Bus 86 runs from the airport to Ga Hà Nội (Hanoi Railway Station) and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The journey costs ₫45,000 ($1.70). The hotel is across the street from the station’s main entrance.

Checking In

After exiting my Grab taxi, I made my way into the hotel just before 9 a.m. and headed straight to the check-in desk.

First look at Tru by Hilton Hanoi Station.

The ongoing construction around the building meant I had to enter through a side entrance directly across from the station.

Stepping through the entrance, I walked past the busy breakfast area and the lobby seating before reaching the check-in counters.

A hotel representative greeted me warmly and welcomed me to the property. Even though I had arrived around 9 a.m., I mentioned that I was there to check in. After requesting my passport and verifying my reservation, he thanked me for being a Hilton Honors Diamond Elite member.

The hotel’s check-in desk.

He informed me that no rooms would be available until 11 a.m. I told him that wasn’t a problem, as I was happy to find a quiet spot to get some work done. He suggested I head up to the second floor, where there was a coworking space, and provided me with a Wi-Fi access code.

I returned to the check-in desk around 10:30 a.m. The front desk representative let me know that a room was available on the 12th floor. I asked if there was anything on a higher floor, and he said a room on the 15th floor would be available in about 30 minutes. I decided not to wait and went ahead with the room on the 12th floor.

He then mentioned that Hilton Honors Diamond elite members receive a welcome amenity at the hotel. The options were 250 Hilton Honors points or a snack basket. I took the latter.

He then requested my credit card to pay for the room. I provided him with my Hilton Aspire card, and he charged the room rate to my card. He handed me my room key card and directed me to the elevators.

Bottom Line:

Thanks to the fantastic front desk staff member, the check-in process was incredibly smooth. Although I arrived at the property early in the morning, I was given a room around 11 a.m., several hours before the hotel’s official check-in time of 3 p.m.

Elite Benefits

As a Hilton Honors Diamond Elite member, I was eligible for several benefits at the hotel:

  • 100% points earning bonus on stays
  • 2 free bottled waters per day
  • Space-available room upgrade
  • Late checkout until 4 p.m.
  • Welcome amenity (250 Hilton Honors points or a snack basket)
  • 25% discount on menu items at the hotel restaurant

For the welcome amenity, I chose the snack basket, which consisted of 2 bottles of water and some dried mango.

Lobby

Directly across from the check-in desk was a small seating area and a striking piece of artwork (shown at the top of this review) featuring prominent landmarks around Hanoi.

To the left of the check-in desks stood a massive locomotive sculpture — a bold and fitting tribute, given the hotel’s location directly across from the train station.

The bar extended toward the check-in desk, creating a seamless flow through the lobby.

To the left of the bar was a small complimentary infused-water station — a thoughtful touch for guests passing through the lobby. Unfortunately, the water was a bit warm.

Directly across from it was the breakfast serving area, where guests could help themselves to various morning offerings.

A foosball table was also in the middle of the lobby, which was almost always occupied.

Lastly, the lobby had several dining tables and chairs, offering a casual space for guests to relax.

1 King Bed High-Floor Room

I got off the elevator on the 12th floor and went to room 1209, a corner room at the end of the hallway.

I immediately noticed the simple, open-concept layout as I entered the room.

I was immediately surprised by the layout of the room.

There was a small luggage rack to the right against the wall.

The room’s king-size bed was almost directly in front of the door and on a platform. Behind the bed was a single, massive, floor-to-ceiling window

I liked how the bed was on an elevated platform.

The bed was incredibly comfortable, with plush pillows and thick, cozy bedding. A padded headboard behind the bed added an extra touch of comfort.

The bed was extremely comfortable thanks to the high-quality bedding.

To the left of the bed stood a small side table with a wall-mounted lamp and nightlight above it, as well as an AC power outlet nearby. The room’s lighting controls were within easy reach.

The room’s television was mounted on the wall directly across from the bed. To the left of the TV, there were controls to raise and lower the sheers and blinds.

The window offered excellent views of nearby office buildings and residential complexes, with several high-rises visible in the distance.

The rest of the room was to the right through a narrow path. To the right was the combination toilet and shower room.

Across from the toilet and shower area entrance was a small workstation neatly tucked into the corner. Beneath the desk was a built-in space housing the room’s minifridge.

Although not ergonomic, the workstation chair was surprisingly comfortable and worked well for getting a bit of work done.

Bathroom

The toilet and the walk-in shower were behind a single glass door, and a shower curtain separated the shower area from the rest of the space.

The walk-in shower had an overhead shower head and a handheld one, both with fantastic shower pressure.

I loved how strong the shower pressure was.

The bathroom vanity was to the right of the workstation. The countertop provided plenty of space and featured a deep sink.

Lastly, another floor-to-ceiling window beside the bathroom vanity offered fantastic views of nearby businesses and the bustling intersections below.

Bottom Line:

Overall, the room provided enough space and met all my needs. I did not particularly like the layout of the room, as things just felt out of place. Still, the room was incredibly clean and offered great views.

Amenities

Tru by Hilton Hanoi Station offered several convenient amenities for hotel guests. Here’s a look at what you can expect.

Fitness Center

The 24-hour-a-day fitness center was on the second floor, directly above the hotel lobby. Although it was relatively small, it was well-equipped with cardio and strength training equipment.

In the far right corner of the room were 2 treadmills.

Laundry Facility

The property also featured a laundry facility on the second floor, next to the fitness center. It included 2 washers and 2 dryers, although one of the machines was out of order during my stay.

Guests could also use a drying rack and an ironing board, which added a nice touch of convenience to the laundry facility.

Self-Storage Lockers

The hotel provided self-storage lockers for guest use, complete with clear instructions on how to operate them.

Food and Beverages

Tru by Hilton Hanoi Station has a single restaurant.

Tru Restaurant

The property’s only dining is at Tru Restaurant, open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tru Restaurant features a primarily Vietnamese menu with some international foods.

The hotel provides a complimentary breakfast buffet to all guests.

Since breakfast was quite busy the morning I arrived, I woke up at 6:30 a.m. to have breakfast early.

The main table in the center featured cereal, cold cuts, and a good selection of fruits.

A small hot foods section included bacon, fried eggs, and stir-fried vegetables.

There was also a station where guests could build pho bowls.

Numerous pho toppings were also available, including classic staples like bean sprouts, basil, cilantro, lime wedges, and sliced chili peppers.

Lastly, there was a small station with both meat-filled and vegetarian dumplings.

Bottom Line:

Breakfast was a major letdown and definitely not worth getting up early for. In fact, it may have been one of the least memorable hotel breakfasts I’ve had in quite some time.

Service

Although there was a slight language barrier with some hotel staff members, I found the staff to be incredibly welcoming and courteous.

They did an excellent job showcasing the genuine hospitality Vietnam is known for. Staff members were always available to answer any questions and fulfill any requests.

Final Thoughts

Tru by Hilton Hanoi Station is a solid Hilton property worth considering for those visiting Hanoi, Vietnam. It is near Hanoi Railway Station and many major Hanoi attractions.

The hotel perfectly served my needs and provided everything you could ask for at a fantastic price. I appreciated how incredible the staff were and that they provided me with an incredibly early check-in. The upgrade to a room on a high floor was also lovely, as it offered excellent views.

Unfortunately, not everything can be perfect, especially at such a low price. Breakfast at the property was awful, and nothing tasted even remotely good, which is a shame.

Still, for around $50, the hotel provided excellent value. I would consider staying at Tru by Hilton Hanoi Station the next time I am in Hanoi.
