Universal Kids Resort Hotel is a kid-first hotel within the new Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas. It’s ideal for families seeking convenience for park visits, colorful theming, and kid-friendly rooms with practical comforts. Designed for families, the hotel offers fun, practical features that are clearly intended to deliver a great experience and encourage return visitors.

I visited the hotel with my husband and tweens for 2 nights during the Universal Kids Resort media preview in June 2026. Here’s our experience.

Booking Universal Kids Resort Hotel

Universal Kids Resort Hotel offers standard rooms starting at around $260 per night, but peak dates are higher, and rooms with more square footage or pool or theme park views cost more. You can book directly with Universal or pay with cash or Membership Rewards points on AmexTravel.com.

Sharon Parker, director of marketing and sales at Universal Kids Resort, recommended in an interview with Upgraded Points to look at Universal’s package options. “There are opportunities to be able to do a 1- or 2-day general admission ticket, and you can also layer in the ability to stay at the hotel, and even make a flight arrangement,” said Parker.

The Hotel Is Part of the Park

Universal Kids Resort Hotel is an extension of Universal Kids Resort and sits atop the park entrance.

The park and hotel are in Frisco, Texas, a suburb north of Dallas. It’s close to family-friendly attractions, including the National Videogame Museum, Frisco Public Library, Nerdvana, and the National Soccer Hall of Fame, just a 5-minute drive south on the tollway. Six Flags Over Texas is in nearby Arlington.

The park and hotel are about a 30-minute drive to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) or Dallas Love Field (DAL).

Universal Kids Resort Hotel is one of the most convenient theme park hotels. It takes just a few moments to reach the park from the elevators. No long walks or bus or boat waits, just a seamless way to pop in and out for naps, forgotten items, cool-down breaks, pool time, or meals in the cafe.

The location is a big win for families, especially in the Texas heat. I changed into fresh clothes halfway through our hot park day, and it only took me a few minutes to reach our room. I shared an elevator with a family heading back for a midday nap. On a return visit, I’d likely plan for lunch at the pool.

Guests of the hotel get early park admission 1 hour before regular guests and complimentary merchandise delivery from the park to the hotel.

“There’s a lot you can do in an hour,” said Parker.

The Resort Is Bright and Colorful

With a bright lobby splashed in rainbows, our kids were immediately hyped to walk into this hotel. The rainbow tunnel hallway, bubble lights, and color-blocked seating zones made the lobby feel exciting and welcoming. The furniture was clearly chosen with kids in mind, with the front desks, tables, and seating all rounded and accessible to kids.

Standard Rooms Sleep 5

The hotel has 5 floors and 300 rooms. At 288 square feet, our standard queen room was about average in terms of space, but punched above its weight with smart design. I was impressed by how functional the room was, with space for 5, numerous storage spots, and flexible seating — all with a cute and colorful look.

Universal Kids Resort Hotel addressed some of the pain points our family experiences in hotel rooms. Some of the features we appreciated:

• Families of 5 fit in standard rooms — and there were towels for 6.
• Bench seating and movable stools offered flexible seating options.
• Storage was everywhere, with cubbies, drawers, under-bed space, hanging hooks, and a wardrobe.
• Numerous outlets (both regular and USB) were available, including one on the dresser next to the bench seating.

The kids still argued over who got the top bunk, but it felt fair because the bottom bunk had a larger bed. Floor space was an issue as the kids got ready, unpacking in what became the walkway between the wardrobe and the bathroom, but otherwise, we felt like we had enough space.

Within the dresser was a minifridge and a safe, though there wasn’t a microwave or in-room coffee maker. Our bags fit easily — the kids put theirs under the bunk beds, and the grown-ups took the wardrobe (which also stored an extra blanket and pillow). There was still room under the bed and in the dresser if we needed it.

Safety deposit boxes, travel cribs, step stools, and white noise machines are available on request at no additional charge.

I toured a family suite, which sleeps up to 6, with a separate bedroom and living room. This suite could be worth it for more privacy, separate sleeping spaces, and more room to rest.

Amenities Made for Kids

Aside from park access, the main amenity at Universal Kids Resort hotel is the pool, which has a beach entry nearest the entrance and feels appropriate for kids of all ages. The pool was our kids’ favorite hotel feature, followed closely by the game room.

The deepest point in the pool is 4 feet, still enough for older kids to do flips, handstands, and play mermaids. Younger kids stayed in the shallow beach entry or on the long step shelf on the far side of the pool. One of the coolest features was underwater speakers, so we could hear the pool music while submerged.

Lifeguards were on active duty during pool hours, monitoring for safety and behavior. We saw plenty of loungers, shades, and life jackets. Towels were easily available at the pool entrance. On-site dining was just steps away, and we ordered food to go from the cafe for a poolside dinner on our last night.

The game room was small, tucked away in the park entrance corridor. It wouldn’t fill a rainy afternoon with entertainment, but there were fun features, and the claw machine gave our kids easy wins.

A mini shop near the lobby entrance offered essentials and snacks, though I was surprised that it didn’t have Universal character merchandise to gear up before heading into the park.

Additional amenities included luggage storage, guest laundry, a reverse ATM that turns cash into cards, ice and water bottle fillers on every floor, and a 24/7 fitness center.

Bottom Line:

Universal Kids Resort Hotel got many aspects of family travel right. Conveniences like white noise machines by request, laundry, and water-bottle filling stations help with the less glamorous parts of theme park trips.

The Curiosity Cafe Is Convenient

Hotel dining is in the Curiosity Cafe, which is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, including the bar.

The menu had a variety of adult-friendly options. I expected typical theme park fare such as pizza and burgers (which were on the menu), but standouts included ahi tuna salad, short rib, and curry. Breakfast was simpler, with oats, a classic breakfast plate, a breakfast sandwich, and country-fried breakfast. I liked that the menu spanned a wide range of tastes without being overwhelming.

The kids menu covered the basics with mini waffles, fruit, cereal, chicken tenders, butter noodles, mac and cheese, and a kids burger. Given the hotel’s audience, I would have liked to see more kid-friendly options or kid-sized portions of adult menu items.

A grab-and-go area near the registers featured bottled drinks, fruit, dry snacks, and other portable food. Pastry cases had a wide selection, including a chocolate croissant we liked. Snacks were also available in the lobby mini shop. A middle ground between plated breakfast and grab-and-go cold food was hot, premade breakfast sandwiches and burritos, wrapped and ready to go.

Coffee and tea, including lattes and Teavana, were available, and the cafe had a full bar, with cocktails, beer, wine, seltzers, and a kids mocktail. Refillable cups for the Coca-Cola Freestyle machines were available for $19.99 per day, with discounts for families buying multiple cups.

I’d like to see mobile ordering so we can queue up breakfast before leaving our room, and pool lounger delivery so no one has to dry off and go inside to order and wait for food.

Universal Kids Resort Hotel complements a visit to Universal Kids Resort. Its dedicated park entrance, early admission, family-sized rooms, and a kid-friendly pool make it easy to take park-day breaks without losing momentum.

Clearly designed for children, the rooms and hallways are colorful and feature kid-friendly details, including bunk beds, step stools, travel cribs, and white noise machines on request. But adults aren’t ignored: the Curiosity Cafe has a broad adult menu, a bar, a fitness center, and enough seating and storage to make family stays feel manageable.
