Voye is an eSIM provider that offers instant connectivity and global coverage at affordable rates, making it particularly helpful during international travel.

I’ll never forget the summer I went to Colombia and thought I had turned off my roaming, but hadn’t. After $350 worth of roaming charges, I swore I’d never let it happen again and began purchasing local SIM cards whenever I arrived in a new country. However, searching the airport for a SIM counter after a 12-hour flight isn’t convenient or enjoyable, so when eSIMs began gaining popularity, I was intrigued.

There are several eSIM providers out there, and Voye is one of them. We tested Voye (and several other eSIM companies) to see how the brand measures up. Read on to understand more about eSIMs and whether Voye is a solid contender for your next eSIM.

What Are eSIMs?

Remember taking out your earring and pushing it into that tiny hole in your phone to pop out your SIM card? Embedded SIMs, or eSIMs, are taking that step out of the equation. An eSIM is an electronic version of a SIM card that allows your phone to connect to a mobile network or cellular data.

One advantage of an eSIM is that you can have multiple eSIMs in your phone (though usually no more than 2 activated at the same time), whereas your phone can only fit 1 or 2 physical SIM cards. Beyond that, eSIMs are time-saving because you can purchase them online instead of having to find a store. They’re also convenient (remember the aforementioned earring extravaganza?) and affordable — you can find plans for under $10 at Voye.

Voye Review

Voye Global offers coverage in more than 130 countries. For example, you can obtain coverage in countries such as Cyprus, Ecuador, Ghana, Haiti, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Spain, the Maldives, and many others. The brand prides itself on instant connectivity, stating that users should be able to activate their eSIM and get online within minutes. If you encounter any issues, Voye offers 24/7 customer support, allowing you to troubleshoot quickly and efficiently.

The brand offers fair rates that are in line with other eSIM providers — and you get your first 100MB free with any plan.

Installation is fairly standard with Voye. You’ll need a stable Wi-Fi connection to install your eSIM. Then, you’ll need to go to your cellular data settings and select “Add eSIM.”

Once you make your Voye purchase, you receive a QR code that you need to open on another device so you can scan it with your phone (note that you don’t need 2 devices if you have iOS 17.4 or above). You can only scan your code once, so ensure you’re connected and ready before proceeding.

You can install the eSIM ahead of your travels and keep it turned off until you reach your destination. Once you arrive, turn on your eSIM, and you should be connected.

Installing the eSIM on my iPhone could not have been easier — the process was seamless. I installed the eSIM ahead of a trip to Paris, and it worked immediately upon landing. I remained connected throughout my trip and was able to use maps, search hours of operation for museums, and look up restaurant menus without any issues.

Voye recommends changing the name of your new eSIM once you add it so you don’t get it confused with the eSIM you normally use.

Hot Tip:

If you’d like to confirm everything works before traveling, Voye adds a complimentary 100MB plan to your account — there’s no extra cost to check if the installation worked. To do this, go to your cellular settings and enable your eSIM. Then turn off Wi-Fi. The initial sync may take a bit, but it should work, and everything will function properly once you land.

Voye Plans

Voye has 3 types of plans: local eSIMs, regional eSIMs, and global eSIMs.

Local eSIM

Local eSIMs work mainly by country. For example, if I select “Local eSIM” and then “Spain,” the plans appear based on the amount of data, ranging from $9 for 5GB (valid for 7 days) to $25 for 25GB (valid for 30 days).

There’s also a tab to click offering unlimited data plans, but note that if you select one of these options, you’re limited to 2GB of data per day. For example, an unlimited 7-day plan in Spain costs $13.

It only took a few minutes to install the eSIM before I left for a trip to Thailand. I switched it on as soon as I landed, and it worked immediately. It even came to the rescue when our hotel’s Wi-Fi couldn’t handle streaming a basketball game. My husband switched over to my phone and was able to watch his beloved Cleveland Cavaliers from our hotel in Phuket.

Regional eSIM

Regional eSIMs work by region, making them ideal if you’re visiting multiple countries on a single trip. Select from regions such as Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, North America, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Voye’s regional eSIMs also allow you to choose from a data plan or unlimited data (with the same 2GB daily limit). For example, a regional Asia eSIM covers 18 countries and costs $25 for 10GB of data, valid for 30 days.

Global eSIM

Serious globetrotters, digital nomads, anyone with several varying international trips within a few months, or those covering multiple continents on an extended trip might want to consider one of Voye’s global eSIM plans, which include 149 countries (you can click on the countries tab to make sure the countries you’re traveling to are included). With global eSIMs, you can choose from data-only plans or data and calls. For example, 10GB of data valid for 180 days in 149 countries costs $40 with the global eSIM.

Note that there are certain restrictions on the data-and-calls global eSIM plans, as certain countries don’t support calls: Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brunei, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, the Faroe Islands, French Polynesia, Kyrgyzstan, the Maldives, Nepal, and Pakistan.

How To Choose a Voye Plan

In the next year, I have multiple trips planned to various countries, including Italy, Mexico, Qatar, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, and the United States. I plan to compare Voye’s global plans with its local and regional options to determine which is a better deal.

I could opt for a global plan (for example, there’s a 50GB global eSIM plan valid for a full 365 days in 149 countries for $119) or select smaller plans with local eSIMs. Alternatively, I could try to categorize it by region, such as Europe or Asia. I’ll have to do the math to decide which is the best deal for me, as well as consider how much data I really need in each place.

If you have several trips abroad on your calendar, compare the global, regional, and local plans to determine which one best suits your needs.

Note that if your chosen plan runs out while you’re abroad, you can easily purchase another one and add it to your existing eSIM.

Hot Tip:

Wondering about other eSIM brands? We’ve reviewed Airalo, Jetpac, and GigSky. Note that if you have a Visa Infinite card like the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or a Visa Signature card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you can get a free GigSky eSIM every year.

Final Thoughts

We recommend using Voye — it’s a solid contender in the eSIM world, with competitive rates, easy installation, and seamless functionality. When Upgraded Points staff members tested out a Voye eSIM abroad, it was a painless process that simplified getting and using data abroad. Consider Voye for your next trip, whether you’re heading to a single country for a few days or embarking on a multiple-continent, extended adventure.
