Update: The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

American Airlines’ latest promotion is aimed at giving its corporate travelers a quicker way to reach higher levels of AAdvantage elite status.

With just 1 round-trip per month through March 31, 2022, you could become an American Airlines AAdvantage Gold member.

Let’s take a look at the details.

How To Fast Track to AAdvantage Gold or Platinum

This promotion doesn’t require any registration.

To be eligible, AAdvantage members simply need to make sure to include the following information on each reservation:

  • AAdvantage member number
  • Either a Business Extra account number or a corporate travel program identifier number

Next is the fun part: to earn AAdvantage Gold status, you’ll need to fly 8 flights between November 16, 2021, and March 31, 2022. If you’re aiming higher, you’ll need to fly 16 flights over the same time period to earn AAdvantage Platinum status.

The Fine Print

The terms and conditions for American’s Fast Track to Status promotion are very relaxed.

First of all, “flights” refers to single segments (one-way flights), rather than round-trip itineraries. This means that the 8 flights required to earn Gold status are really only 4 round-trips, and the Platinum fast track requires 8 round-trips.

Flights must be miles-earning itineraries — award travel doesn’t count towards the promotion.

Flights with other Oneworld members such as Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Qantas, and American’s new partner JetBlue will also count towards the 8 or 16 flights needed to qualify for the fast track.

Flyers will be able to benefit from their new status perks within 24 hours of completing the requirements. The perks will last until January 2023 unless they re-qualify.

The promotion is only available to those residing in the U.S.

Business Extra

The Business Extra program is designed to benefit both employers and their employees. But you don’t have to be a mega-corporation to sign up. All you need to do to be eligible for the program is register 3 travelers over the course of a calendar year and reach at least $5,000 in qualifying travel.

Final Thoughts

This promotion is a no-brainer, especially if you fly frequently for work. No matter what kind of traveling you do, you’re just 4 round-trip flights away from enjoying the benefits of American Airlines elite status.

If I use my BE points to become Gold now then fly 8 segments will I become Platinum? It says no status to start which I do not have but was thinking to use BE points to become Gold next week. They don’t give much detail….

Hi Steve,

Based on my understanding, you would have to fly 8 round-trips in order to become Platinum, regardless of your current status level.

Do you have to physically fly before March 31? For example, if I purchase 8 segments before March 31, will that still quality me for Gold?

Hi Ally. You must fly the 8 segments by March 31 in order to qualify for Gold. Just purchasing the tickets by will not result in earning the elite status.
