Air Canada and Emirates have agreed to extend their strategic partnership.

The 2 airlines have signed a memorandum of understanding, which will see their codeshare and loyalty partnership continued until at least 2032.

“This agreement strengthens our international strategy by supporting our daily, year-round service between Toronto and Dubai and providing customers and shippers seamless connections to destinations across the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia,” said Mark Galardo, executive vice president at Air Canada.

Here’s more on the partnership extension.

Air Canada and Emirates Extended Partnership

Following the original launch of the partnership in 2022, Air Canada and Emirates are now poised to solidify their relationship with an extension through December 31, 2032.

Strategic partnerships of this type have several benefits, not least for travelers. The extension means Air Canada and Emirates passengers booked on a single itinerary will continue to enjoy seamless connections and cross-airline bag checking between the 2 carriers.

As it stands, the codeshare applies to 56 routes that connect 37 destinations in the U.S. and Canada with 19 routes in India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

Additionally, passengers will continue to enjoy reciprocal miles earning and spending across both the Aeroplan and Skywards programs. The next step will be to introduce the ability to redeem miles for each other’s premium economy cabins.

With the signing of the extended agreement, the airlines have promised more enhancements to the passenger experience. While the exact details of this haven’t been specified, the updates are likely to be in the form of improved priority benefits for Aeroplan and Skywards frequent flyers when traveling on the other airline.

“What makes this partnership so compelling is the ease and breadth of the experience: more routing choice, reciprocal loyalty benefits, lounge access for eligible customers, and smooth interline and codeshare journeys,” said Mary-Jane Lorette, vice president of international affairs, network and partnerships for Air Canada.

Hot Tip:

If you’re based in the U.S., you can often find some great value redemptions for flights with several airlines, including Emirates business class, when redeeming your Aeroplan points.

Final Thoughts

After a 3-year trial period, the interline and codeshare agreements between Air Canada and Emirates have been deemed so successful that they will be continued for at least another 7 years.

It will be great to see what routes and destinations might be added to the codeshare options next.
