Are you familiar with the Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard®? Probably not, since it’s not very well-known in the points and miles community. Issued by Bank of America, the card features an $89 annual fee and has a few different benefits, including a 5,000-mile account anniversary bonus. More interesting than that, however, is the card’s limited-time sign-up bonus. Let’s take a look.

Offer Details

There aren’t published dates for when this Air France KLM World Elite card offer will end, which means if you’re interested, you’ll want to jump on it sooner rather than later:

  • Earn 70,000 bonus miles after spending $2,000 in the first 3 months of card ownership, plus a bonus of 40 XP (Experience Points)
  • Receive 60 XP upon approval for the card

This may not seem like a huge deal, but you can regularly find business class award space on Air France or KLM to Europe for 55,000 miles and under, meaning this bonus can potentially be worth thousands of dollars — and that’s not bad for just $2,000 in spend. In addition to the welcome offer, the card features:

  • 3x miles per $1 spent on Air France, KLM, and SkyTeam purchases
  • 1.5x miles per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • 5,000-mile bonus each year on your account anniversary every year during which you’ve spent $50 or more on the card

As you can see, benefits are thin on the ground for this card, but keep in mind that it’s a World Elite Mastercard, which comes with its own bevy of perks, including concierge access and a free Shoprunner membership.

Is It Worth It?

The fact that you’ve probably never heard of this card can probably tell you whether it’s worth a great slot in your wallet. If you’re edging up against Chase’s 5/24, obviously this card isn’t one you’d like to acquire. However, if you’re looking for a new card and any chance with other major card issuers is shot, you may want to consider going after this one.

With this sign-up bonus, it’s easy to more than get your money’s worth out of your miles, especially when you take advantage of Air France’s rotating Promo Rewards.

Here’s a look at a one-way nonstop flight from New York (JFK) to Paris (CDG) in the middle of summer:

New York is on Air France’s list of Promo Rewards this month, which means you’ll save 25% on reward flights for this destination. In this case, it means you’ll pay just 16,500 miles for that same one-way flight:

After spending $2,000 on purchases to earn that sign-up bonus, you’ll come out with a minimum of 73,000 Flying Blue miles — or enough for you and a friend to fly roundtrip to Europe. Not bad!

Hot Tip: Flying Blue miles transfer over from American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Brex RewardsCapital One MilesChase Ultimate Rewards, and Citi ThankYou Points at a 1:1 ratio, as well as Marriott Bonvoy at a 3:1 ratio, making them very easy to earn.

Final Thoughts

It’s always good news when a credit card comes out with a limited-time offer, though in this case, it’s probably not a card with which you’re familiar. Still, if you’re looking to quickly boost your Flying Blue balance, it may be worth getting in while the getting is good. Otherwise, take advantage of the program’s multiple partnerships to snag those discounted reward flights.
