Air France-KLM Flying Blue was created 2 decades ago, in 2005, after the merger of the former Air France Fréquence Plus and KLM Flying Dutchman programs.

Since then, it’s become one of our favorite loyalty programs, and the public seems to agree, as the Flying Blue program has nearly 30 million members worldwide.

To celebrate its 20th birthday, Flying Blue is out with several interesting promotions that members can take advantage of. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s dive into the nitty gritty!

Flying Blue’s ‘Turning Miles Into Memories, for 20 Years’ Campaign

Air France-KLM Flying Blue is celebrating 20 years by rolling out a massive campaign with special marketing installations and other multimedia content at several airports around the world, including Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Paris-Orly (ORY), Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), and New York (JFK).

However, the special promotions associated with the 20th birthday festivities are more important to us. Let’s take a look.

Flying Blue Platinum Status for Some Flyers

If you happen to have been born on June 6, 2005, it’s your lucky day. If you’re a member of the Flying Blue program, you’ll automatically be upgraded to upper-tier Platinum elite status. Your status will be valid for 1 year from today, until June 6, 2026, and is valid for eligible members “who have been active in the past year,” according to a Flying Blue spokesperson.

Platinum status is the second-highest in the Flying Blue program and confers some excellent benefits to members, including:

Flights must be marketed and operated by Air France, KLM, or Transavia. Air France La Prèmiere flights are excluded, though all other classes of travel are eligible.

Miles of Memories Sweepstakes

Members can share their favorite travel memories on social media for a chance to win a massive 200,000 Flying Blue miles, which is more than enough for a round-trip business-class ticket between the U.S. and Europe.
